Arsenal back in old form against Porto

In the end, it was an amazing win for arsenal. The score was in the end 4-0. of course, All the fans are very happy and they felt that their favorite club is a game favorite in this season. I think that it was the best win for the club in many weeks. Well, I am happy to see that Arsense Wenger thinks this way too. Arsenal dominated in the whole match and scored two goals each in both half. Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor scored 2 goals each for the London club.

If arsenal players could make use of some more opportunities then the final score could have been double for them. With this win, arsenal is now at the top of Group G in UEFA Champions League 2008-09. Before the start of the group stage, some people including myself thought that arsenal was in the group of Death. Now, it seems that arsenal may just when the group is very easily. Of course, there is a long way to go.

Irani Cup 2008: Rest of India Wins the Title

Rest of India (ROI) has clinched the Irani Cup 2008 trophy, defeating Delhi team by 187 runs with a day at hand. Chasing a target of 378 runs, Delhi’s second innings got all out for 190. Harbhajan Singh picked up four wickets, while Captain Anil Kumble and pacer Zaheer Khan got three wickets apiece for Rest of India.

Opener Gautam Gambhir played an excellent innings of 91, but all of his efforts went to vain as no other Delhi batsman could support him well. Except Rajat Bhatia who scored 31, no other Delhi batsman could stand on in their pursuit to reach a big total of 378 runs. After Gambhir’s 91 and Bhatia’s 31, Mr. Extra scored third highest 21 for Delhi. So, you can guess the failure of the other Delhi batsmen.

Rest of India Captain Anil Kumble won the toss and elected to bat first in the match, but ROI’s first innings bundled out for 252 with the highest score 50 coming from opener Wasim Jaffer’s bat. Ishant Sharma, Sangwan and Nanda took three wickets for Delhi. However, Delhi’s first innings stopped at 177 as Munaf Patel appeared with his top from to pick up four wickets. Then Rest of India put on 302 runs in their second innings, setting up the winning target of 378 runs for Delhi.

No doubt, Rest of India dominated all through the match, while Delhi was always under pressure. Out-of-form Rahul Dravid played well in both the innings and indicated to come back in form ahead of Australia series. Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh were pretty much consistent in the match, while Sangwan has showed that he has the ability to play at the top level of cricket for India. Dhoni played well too. So, I think, Indian selectors will have a number of options available to pick up for the test squad to face Australia in the forthcoming test series.

Irani Cup 2008: Third Day Report

Delhi needs 265 more runs to win the Irani Cup 2008 match, while Rest of India needs seven wickets to clinch victory in the match. So, at the end of the third day, Rest of India seems to be in driving seat, even though Delhi still has their in-form opener Gautam Gambir in the wicket batting on 51 at stumps of the third day. Earlier, Rest of India’s second innings stopped at 302, setting a winning target of 378 runs for Delhi team. Delhi’s second innings reached at 113 for 3 with Harbhajan Singh picking up the wicket of Rajat Bhatia in the last delivery of the day.

Courtesy of two half centuries from Rahul Dravid and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rest of India’s second innings crossed the 300-run mark. Rahul Dravid looked to come back in form ahead of the test series against Australia as the Karnataka batsman played an excellent innings of 69 with 6 boundaries. Badrinath looked to play a big score, but the batsmen lost momentum being got out for 36 off Ishant Sharma. No other middle order batsmen could play well, except Mahendra Singh Dhoni who played a crucial innings of 84 off 113 balls with 12 boundaries and an over-boundary.

Leg-spinner Chetanya Nanda is the most successful Delhi bowler with five wickets. Ishant Sharma took three, while Nehra and Sangwan picked up a wicket each. Chasing a target of 378, Delhi did not have a good start as Captain Virender Sehwag got out for 3 and Kohil failed to build a good partnership with Gambhir being the second victim of Zaheer Khan. However, Gautam Gambhir and Rajat Bhatia added 76 runs for the third wicket. Their partnership started looking dangerous, but Harbhajan Singh brought a much-anticipated break through for Rest of India, picking up the wicket of Rajat Bhatia in the final ball of the day.

So, I think, Rest of India has better chance in the match, but if Gautam Gambhir can carry on batting for one and half or two sessions tomorrow, and get enough support from the middle order, then Delhi still has a real chance to win the match.

Should Thierry Henry Come Back to Arsenal?

It was a great shock for most arsenal supporters when Thierry Henry left the club before the start of the last season. It caused a lot of pain Too many people and many feel that his departure was some kind of betrayal to the club. Well, I don’t agree with them because Thierry Henry is a professional footballer and he has every right to do what is best for him. Having said that, I talked to and I still think that leading the London club was perhaps that was a decision of his life that was taken by Thierry Henry. Live at the new club Barcelona has been everything but ideal. He could not play a most of the time and he was largely overlooked by the coach at the Barcelona. So, I think that Thierry Henry has lost almost two years of life and he is becoming old and he’s losing and is a skill in the profession. Now let us come back to the question of whether he should come back or not to arsenal. I feel that he should not make the same mistake twice. If he’s leaving London was the biggest mistake of his life Then not returning to arsenal would be even a worst mistake. He Is now 31 years old and he has I just three or four years of time of playing football at the top level. Arsenal will be the best place for him to do something. Well, some people have already started comparing Carlos Vela with Henry but I don’t think that it is a good comparison at this moment.

Irani Cup 2008: Second Day Report

Delhi batsmen failed to capitalize on the advantage given by their bowlers as Delhi’s first innings got wrapped up within 177 runs on the second day of the Irani Cup 2008. With excellent bowling from Rest of India bowlers, spearheaded by pacer Munaf Patel, Rest of India took a small by crucial 75-run lead in the first innings and at the end of the day Rest of India batsmen could extend the lead up to 174, losing the wicket of opener Wasim Jaffer as Rest of India’s second innings reached 99 for 1 at stamps.

Except opener Aakash Chopra and Captain Virender Sehwag, no other batsman could play well. Aakash Chopra scored 42, while Sehwag could reach 43 runs. Wicketkeeper Puneet Bisht scored 28, while pacer Sangwan scored 23, but all went in veil as other batsmen could not support them well. All of the Rest of India bowlers performed well. Munaf Patel picked up four wickets, while Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh got two wickets each.

Rest of India openers got a good start as they put on 44 runs for the first wicket partnership before Wasim Jaffer fell on 21 off Sangwan. However, Dravid and Badrinath remained not on 34 and 33 respectively, taking their second innings score to 99 for 1. With 175-run lead and nine wickets at hand, Rest of India seems to be in the driving seat. If Delhi bowlers can not do exceptionally well, then the seemingly victory for Rest of India will be materialized.

Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson Hails Jonny Evans

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been full of praise about his irregular young center half Jonny Evans who impressed his boss with his glowing performance in the Champions League encounter with Villarreal and last Sunday’s premier league match against Chelsea. Ferguson thinks that Northern Ireland international will be a regular Manchester United centre-half one day besides stating that Manchester United turned down a number of decent offers for the defender.

Belfast Telegraph reported:

“I take several positives from our form, including the performance of Jonny Evans,” wrote Ferguson in last night’s match programme.

“Jonny showed why one day he will be a regular Manchester United centre-half. A number of clubs have bid substantial amounts for him, but we have turned them all down because his future is with us.

Manchester United boss is delighted with the prospect of Jonny Evans at Manchester United and he thinks he is at the right club. The manager also ensured that he will keep him giving first team football from time to time. Jonny Evans was not in the United line up for their 3-1 Carling Cup victory over Middlesbrough.

Manchester United Confirmed, No Broken Leg for Rodrigo Possebon

Manchester United fans can pass a big sigh after hearing the news that Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz’s heavy tackle has not broken United’s Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Possebon’s leg. Emanuel Pogatetz was sent off after the tackle that left Possebon in the sideline during Manchester United’s 3-1 Carling Cup third round victory over Middlesbrough on Tuesday. The 19-year-old Rodrigo Possebon was rushed to the hospital with bleeding continuing from the injured leg. He reportedly spent the night at the hospital for medical check up and treatment.

It was Rodrigo Possebon’s debut match for Manchester United. So, Manchester United fans were happy to see the skill of the teenage prospect of Brazil. However, the injury left everybody in Manchester United stumbled as manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed to be. Ferguson said that picking up an injury like this on the debut game was horrendous for any player and admitted that Manchester Untied lost the momentum following the horrified incident in the match. He does not want to see such a terrible incident in future.

Initially, it was thought that Rodrigo Possebon might have picked up with a broken leg. However, the club officials issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the player’s leg is not broken and he was under observation and doctors assessed his condition to check if there was any damage in the ligament of his knee.

Irani Cup 2008: First Day Review

The five-day match of Irani Cup 2009 has begun today at the Reliance Stadium, Vadodara between Delhi and Rest of India. Rest of India captain Anil Kumble won the toss and elected to bat first. However, his batsmen failed to justify his decision being bundled out on 252 in the first innings. Delhi openers remained undefeated putting on 16 runs at stumps.

Rest of India got off to a good start when their openers put on 77 runs for the first wicket partnership. Wasim Jaffer got out just after reaching his 50, while Rahul Dravid scored 46 before becoming the first dismissal of the Ishant Sharma who later picked up two more wickets for Delhi. However, the middle order batsmen failed to capitalize on the solid base proved by the opening pair. Subramaniam Badrinath, VVS Laxman, wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to make big score, but Mohammad Kaif tried to build the innings. However, he also failed to make his 29 bigger, while in the lower order Harbhajan Singh played a crucial innings of 26 not out. Rest of India’s first innings reached the 250 mark thanks to small but important contributions from Rudra Pratap Singh and Munaf Patel, who scored 18 and 19 respectively.

For Delhi, Ishant Sharma and Pradeep Sangwan picked up three wickets each. Teenage left arm pacer Pradeep Sangwan impressed with his excellent bowling against some of the most experienced batsman of India. Carling Cup 2009: Results of Third Round Matches 1

All the premier league hot favorites got off to a good start in Carling Cup 2009 as three of the ‘Big Four’ clubs pulled off easy victory in the third round encounters on 23 September 2008. All the matches were evening kick offs and saw the favorites Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool going through to the fourth round of the tournament. No doubt, Arsenal got the easiest victory of the night as they outclassed Sheffield United at Emirates Stadium thanks to the irregular striker Carlos Vela’s hat trick.

At Anfield, home side Liverpool won 2-1 over League One team Crewe. Liverpool went ahead thanks to 15-minute strike by Daniel Agger from a free kick. However, Michael O’Connor equalized for Crewe ten minutes later. Then Liverpool got the winning goal thanks to a Lucas Leiva header in the second half. Liverpool played well, but could not show as much dominance as Arsenal did over Sheffield United.

Manchester United also started off well in the league cup campaign as the Ferguson boys defeated premier league rivals Middlesbrough 3-1 at home. However, Brazilian Rodrigo Possebon picked up a serious injury in his debut match for Manchester United. The good news for Manchester United fans is that their star players Cristiano Ronaldo found his scoring form as the winger put United ahead in the 24th minutes before half time. Then Johnson scored the equalizer for Middlesbrough in the 55th minute, before Giggs and Nani made the score 3-1 to ensure Manchester United’s place in the fourth round of Carling Cup 2009.

Manchester United has Defeated Middlesbrough in Carling Cup 2009

In the end, the final score was 3-1. so you can easily see that Manchester united just managed to win the match. You have to give a lot of credit to Middlesbrough. They played very well and kept Manchester united under pressure for most of the time. Ronaldo scored the first goal for united and then, A. Johnson equalized. However, at the end, R. Giggs scored the second goal in the 79 minutes. Until that moment, it seemed that Middlesbrough could hold to full time. Well, Nani had some other ideas and he scored the third goal for United in the dying moments.

Final Score of Carling Cup 2009: Arsenal 6 Sheffield United 0

You have to agree with me that it was an amazing score line in the end. The match has just finished and A tunnel has won by 6-0. Many of the top players were rested in this match because it is a Carling Cup match and the young players got the opportunity to show their talent. They did extremely well And tonight, the fans could see the strength of reserved players of the club. Carlos Vela scored three goals. However, he was not the only hero of the night. N. Bendtner also scored two goals. The players who played today for Arsenal were:

Fabianski, Hoyte, Djourou, Song Billong, Gibbs, Randall, Ramsey, Merida, Wilshere, Bendtner, Vela.

Rakhi Sawant: ‘Queen Cheerleader’ of ICL

I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of Rakhi Sawant. I feel that most people are eager to look at her Body than her acting. Well, you must not forget that she is a dancer too. That is perhaps why, Indian cricket league (ICL) bosses have decided to go for her and Rakhi Sawant we’ll be the queen cheerleader in the upcoming season of ICL:

The ICL Zeebra squad comprises eight other cheerleaders - Ritika, Preeti, Jessica, Geeta, Richa, Sharvari, Jayshree and Sangeeta. They will perform across all the match venues of Gurgaon, Panchkula, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.

Sawant has personally auditioned and hand-picked the squad members and their performances will be designed by a Mumbai-based choreographer.

It seems that more and more people are joining ICL despite the fact that BCCI bosses have been trying their best to destroy ICL. There is a rumor that some more excellent  players are going to join ICL.

Manchester United vs Middlesbrough Carling Cup 2009: half Time Score

Manchester United vs Middlesbrough Carling Cup 2009 is going on at this moment. It is half time and the half time score is Manchester United (1)- Middlesbrough (0). Can you imagine who has scored the goal? The only goal of the game so far came in the 25th minute none other than Christiano Ronaldo. Of course, Middlesbrough you should not rule out Middlesbrough yet. They are playing well too. I mean that they are not out the match yet.

Manchester United fans are happy with the way so far the match has gone. Of course, they are aware of the fact that Arsenal is leading their match by 3-0 in half time.

Who will win in the end?

Arsenal vs Sheffield United Carling Cup 2009 Half Time Score

You know that the match is taking place at this moment and arsenal is leading by 3-0 in halftime. It appears to be that The club is going to win the match very easily. Of course, it is a home game and Arsenal has an advantage. Still, I thing that The London based club is on the roll at this moment. They are playing superb football and it seems that everything is going right for them. The first goal came in the 31 minute tanks to N. Bendtner. N. Bendtner scored the second goal too and then      C.A. Vela scored the third goal just before halftime.

Irani Trophy 2008: Delhi v Rest of India Preview

It is a very big competition in Indian cricket but because it is a domestic competition that is why many people are not that much interested about it. Irani Trophy has a long tradition but unfortunately, it is neglected by the media and the people. You will not see Full house crowd in the stadium and even big TV channels will not come and spend a lot of money in promoting it. Even in the most popular website about cricket, you will not find a lot of information. The only thing I could find is: Delhi v Rest of India, Irani Trophy, Vadodara High stakes in star-filled contest

Still, you have to agree with me that something is better than nothing. So, you’ve got something and read it.

Chelsea Midfielder Michael Ballack Eyeing on Winning Silverware

Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack now wants to win silverware with Chelsea. German captain Ballack failed to lift Euro 2008 trophy as Germany was beaten by Champion Spain in the final of the tournament. Moreover, Ballack could not win any titles with Chelsea last season. Chelsea lost to Manchester United in UEFA Champions League final on penalties last season and was defeated by Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup final last season. So, Ballack had experience of reaching very closure to a number of titles in the last one year, but ended up winning nothing.

Sky Sports reported:

He said: "I didn't just think about Moscow in the summer, I lost another final as well.

"You always think about football, I think about it all the time. If you lose two finals in four weeks, of course I'm going to think back.

"It's also good that you have a new season, new targets and a big motivation this season. We have a big squad and lots of competition so that is good in football."

He added: "Nothing has changed for me, I always wanted to win something. I had a big injury last season and had to come back in the middle of the season.

Michael Ballack could not win any title for his country yet, but won a number of domestic titles with his former club Bayern Munich in Germany. Ballack has just retunred after recovering from ankle injury, but the German international lacks match fitness. However, he is expected to be in the starting line up for the Carling Cup third round match against Portsmouth on Wednesday. Now, let us see if Michael Ballack can get his form back and help Chelsea win silverware this season.

Portsmouth vs Chelsea Carling Cup 2009 Preview

Chelsea will travel to Fratton Park to take on home side Portsmouth in a tricky third draw of Carling Cup 2009 tomorrow (24 September 2008). Portsmouth is a very hard premier league opponent to break for any team. However, Chelsea can feel a bit of relief considering Portsmouth’s recent 6-0 humiliating defeat to Manchester City.

Ahead of the Carling Cup encounter, Chelsea is missing a number of players with injury. Reliable centre back Ricardo Carvalho has been out of action for a month after picking up a knee injury in Chelsea 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Ricardo Carvalho’s Portugal team mate, Deco, is also missing the Portsmouth match as he is yet to recover from thigh injury fully. Both the players are crucial for Chelsea in all competitions. However, Deco is expected to be back in action next week. Midfielder Michael Essien is injured out for a long time and is not likely to return before next January.

Midfielder Michael Ballack and striker Didier Drogba have returned from injury recently, but both of them lack match fitness. So, Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari will have to go though a tough time to contend with so many injury problems in the squad. Portsmouth, though, suffered a huge blow at Manchester City; the Pompeys are very strong and capable of taking any advantage given to them. So, Scolari might find it a bit hard to come out of Fratton Park with the fourth round berth of Carling Cup 2009.

Portsmouth is also missing a number of players with injury. Injury hit badly in Portsmouth midfield as three regular midfielders- Lassana Diarra, Sean Davis and Papa Bouba Diop- are ruled out of Chelsea match. However, Harry Redknapp, Portsmouth manager, would have rested some of his regular members for the Carling Cup match, but the injury of Lassana Diarra seems to be very dangerous. The ligament injury might keep the midfielder out of action for a long time. However, Davis is suffering from groin muscle and Diop is out with a hamstring injury, but neither of the injuries is as serious as it is for Diarra. John Utaka might come back in the starting line up after making a substitute appearance against Manchester City.

However, it is not yet sure if Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp will rest some of the key players like Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Sol Campbell against Chelsea to whom Portsmouth suffered a 4-0 defeat at premier league this season. So, Chelsea will look to continue their winning run over Portsmouth despite facing a number of injury woes. Portsmouth players, on the other hand, will try to inspire themselves to take revenge of the defeat, capitalizing on home advantage.

Liverpool vs Crewe Carling Cup 2009 Preview

Liverpool hosts Crewe today in the third round Carling Cup encounter. The match will take place at Anfield. Liverpool is clearly favorite against League One club Crewe, but before writing off Crewe, it is necessary to remember that Liverpool dropped points in their latest premier league match against newly promoted Stroke City. Liverpool could not win any silverware for a long time. So, in their pursuit to win the Carling Cup 2009 title, Liverpool must be careful against Crewe and seek some favor of luck.

Liverpool lost two points against Stroke City as the premier league match was held to a goal less draw, even though they had overall dominance throughout the match. Liverpool also suffered for poor referring that saw a Liverpool goal being called off due to off side. So, they must need some favor of luck against Crewe. Manager Rafael Benitez is expected to field a competitive side, considering the fact that any more ‘slip up’ would come as a morale-denting blow for Liverpool.

Crewe could never reach the fourth round of Carling Cup. Now, to get a fourth round berth, they need to cause an upset at Anfield which will not be easy al all. However, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has indicated that he will experiment with the squad, keeping an eye on Saturday’s derby trip to Everton. Daniel Agger might feature in centre defense of Liverpool today.

All reds goalkeeper Jose Rein will be rested for the match and Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri will be handed his debut match for Liverpool. Diego Cavalieri joined the Merseyside club from Palmeiras in summer transfer window. Benitez is expected to bring some of the irregular players like Left-back Emiliano Insua, midfielder Damien Plessis and forward Daniel Pacheco in the starting line up.

Crewe will find defenders Danny Woodards and Julien Baudet available for the match as the duo have recovered from injury. However, Chris McCready is still doubtful for the match as he is yet to recover from hamstring injury that kept him out of action since August.

At last, I think, seven-time League Cup winner Liverpool is hot favorite against Crewe who will go into the match on the back of five loses out of seven matches this season in League One.

Half Time Score of Manchester United vs Middlesbrough Carling Cup 2009

Manchester United will take on Middlesbrough at Old Trafford in the third round match of Carling Cup 2009. No doubt, Manchester United is favorite against Middlesbrough in the evening kick off today. Manchester United got their rhythm back with the drawn match at Stamford Bridge last Sunday. However, the Red Devils are yet to appear with their prime form yet this season. So, United fans will expect a strong performance over Middlesbrough today.

Sir Alex Ferguson might hand Manucho his debut appearance for Manchester United since he joined the club from Petro Atlético in January 2008. Though he spent a short spell in Greek side Panathinaikos on loan, he joined Old Trafford in July. Now, the Angolan striker is set to make his Manchester United debut against Middlesbrough. Anderson and Nani are also expected to be included in the starting line up of Manchester United for the home encounter with Middlesbrough. Right back Gary Neville will continue his job, while Cristiano Ronaldo will be in the midfield to haunt the opposition defense.

Middlebrough striker Mido will not travel to Old Trafford with groin injury, while striker Tuncay Sanli will be missing the trip to Manchester with knee injury. So, Middlesbrough’s attacking line up will be weak against Manchester United. So, they will definitely play defensive in what would see a flurry of attacks being made by United players specially Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Middlesbrough will get the service of Jeremie Aliadiere who is expected to recover from injury on time to be available for the match. Midfielder Adam Johnson is doubtful for the match with his ankle injury.

Arsenal vs Sheffield United Carling Cup 2009 Preview

You can find half time score of the match here:

Half Time Score of Arsenal vs Sheffield United Carling Cup 2009 match

Arsenal is going to welcome Sheffield United in the third round Carling Cup meeting at the Emirates stadium today. On the back a confidence-booster 3-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers last week, Arsenal seems to be favorite against the Champions side, Sheffield United. However, manager Arsene Wenger might feature a very young starting line up against Sheffield United with a number of players from reserve side likely to be in the first eleven.

Arsenal’s reserve side players like 16-year-old Jack Wilshere, captain of reserve side Gavin Hoyte, Kieran Gibbs and Emmanuel Frimpong are all set to get into the final squad for the Carling Cup match up with Sheffield United. Moreover, some of the irregular first team players like Alexander Song, Johan Djourou and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski might also be in the starting line up in the evening kick off against the Blades today. Arsenal’s attacking line up will take a new look when Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner will team up with Mexican Carlos Vela in the front.

It is not the first time Arsenal manager Arsene Wegner is going to feature new bloods in their Carling Cup encounter. In fact, Wenger did the same thing for a number of times in the previous seasons. So, Sheffield United, who started their Championship season acrimoniously, can feel relieve ahead of their visit to Emirates stadium. However, the young guns of Arsene Wenger will not be too easy to crack, considering the fact that they will all be inspired to prove their skill and talent to impress their boss Arsene Wenger.

Sheffield United coach Kevin Blackwell will feature James Beatti against Arsenal, even though he is not fully fit. Darius Henderson will miss the match with knee injury, while Sun Jihai will miss the visit to Arsenal due to suspension. Blackwell rested some of the key players for the first and second round matches of Carling Cup, but now they are going to come back with the match. Lee Hendrie, Keith Gillespie and Danny Webber are expected to be crucial for Sheffield United for today’s match.

John Mikel Obi Happy for Joining Chelsea over Manchester United

After playing two years successfully for Chelsea, John Mikel Obi now feels that it was a right decision to move to Chelsea over Manchester United. In 2006, Chelsea and Manchester United locked horn to sign John Mikel Obi and after a series of turn and twists, John Mikel Obi joined Stamford Bridge. Looking back to the first two seasons at Chelsea, the Nigerian international now feels that he is in a fantastic club with fantastic people and he wants to play for the Blues for a long spell. Besides stressing on working hard, the central midfielder now wants to win premier league title.

Every time Chelsea faces Manchester United, John Mikel Obi plays very well, but he wants to keep this form in every game. He also wants to keep the current six-point lead over Manchester United as he looks to win the premier league title this season. About the recent draw against Manchester United, he said that except the first 10 minutes of the match, Chelsea played better than Manchester United. John Mikel Obi has represented Nigeria in 24 international matches, scoring 2 goals so far in his career. He is just 21 year old and can play at least another ten years with sheer success both in club as well as in international level.

Chelsea Defender Ricardo Carvalho Injured out for a Month with Knee Injury

Chelsea centre back Ricardo Carvalho has been out of action for a month with a knee injury sustained in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester Untied. The knee injury forced him out on the 12th minute of the match at Stamford Bridge and the team medial staff confirmed later on that he would need to take rest for a month as a scan showed damage to the medial ligament in his left knee. He does not need to undergo any surgery, but the Portugal international needs to give his left knee some rest in order to shake off the injury. Because of the knee injury, Carvalho will miss at least three premier league matches, two Champions League encounters and Tuesday’s third round Carling Cup fixture at Portsmouth. Carvalho is expected to be back in action in the home match against Liverpool.

Chelsea midfield star Deco, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona during Summer, is also out of action since he suffered thigh muscle pull up. Deco has been Chelsea most impressive player of this season so far with an impact in the midfield. Deco is expected to be available for the Aston Villa match on 5 October. No doubt, it would not be so easy for manager Luiz Felipe Scolari to come to terms with the injury of Ricardo Carvalho as he does not have too many options for the centre back position of Chelsea defense. With Michael Essien out for a long spell, it seems that Chelsea is going to face the similar situation of last season when Avram Grant had to contend with a number of injuries in the halfway of the season.

Chelsea is reportedly going to sign Miniero to fill up the midfield void created by Essien injury. In the centre back position, Scolari might feature Alex who came on as replacement of Ricardo Carvalho in the drawn match against Manchester United. Branislav Ivanovic has remained untested since he joined the club in a move from Lokomotiv Moscow for £9 million. So, against Portsmouth he might get some action for Chelsea.

Sebastian Giovinco Considering Arsenal Transfer

Juventus midfielder Sebastian Giovinco is now considering the much-talked about move to Arsenal. The Italian has been linked with Arsenal for a long time, but now it seems that a January transfer move is very likely for Giovinco who is considered as one of the most talented and potential midfielders in Europe.

However, the attacking midfielder is not happy with his current club Juventus. First, the club denied his demand for a pay-hike to €1m per year. Secondly, the player is not satisfied with playing time he is getting from the coach. He could manage to play only 25 minutes in the first five matches of Juventus this season. Sebastian Giovinco was even dropped from the substitute bench in the Champions League victory over Zenit St Petersburg. Sebastian Giovinco is now desperate to get more first team football.

Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of the midfielder and was earlier linked with a move for the Italian. However, the Arsenal hope did not materialize, but reports out in the media suggest that Arsenal would make an official bid for the midfielder during January transfer window.

Liverpool Held to a Disappointing Draw against Stroke City

Liverpool was held to a goal less disappointing draw against Stroke City in the weekend. On the back of their confidence-booster 2-1 victory over Manchester United last week, it was thought that the All Reds would pull off a big margin victory against Stroke City. Actually, Liverpool dominated throughout the match creating a number of chances, but the resistance of the visiting side was such that I would say they deserved a point from the match, though I would not say that Liverpool did not deserve three points in the match.

Actually, it was Liverpool’s bad luck that did not let the home fans leave the ground with a victory celebration. Captain Michael Gerrard started celebrating his 100th league goal for Liverpool after sending the ball into the Stroke City net from a curled free kick, but the goal was disallowed for offside. However, television reply proved that it has been a controversial decision. Robbie Keane, Xabi Alonso, Dirk Kuyt and Fernando Torres all missed solid chances coming in their way throughout the match.

The home draw could be an alarm for the Rafael Benitez side in the title race. Looking back to the previous few seasons, it is apparent that Liverpool very often loses point in similar fashion against underdog teams, but at the end of the season those points matter most. Now, let us see if Liverpool can come out of the patch and create a real threat for three other big clubs in the title race of premier league. With this victory, Liverpool holds on the second place of the table with 11 points from five matches. However, they might move down to the third if Chelsea can win at least a point against Manchester United.

Arsenal: Profit to be Invested for What?

We often think that there is too much money in football in our time. Well, Arsenal is a club that has acted more smartly about spending money on top celebrity players. Thus, they could make some good profit as they did not buy any top player in the last few years. Now, there is a report that They have made some decent amount of money and thus, they can now invest on buying some players. I know that most fans want arsenal to go for the players but I do not agree with them. I think that Financial health is much more important than any other thing for a club. Have you forgotten the experience of Leeds? Where is the club today? I don’t want arsenal to follow their example.

Chelsea Eyeing on Moving Nine Points Clear of Manchester United

Chelsea will face defending Champion Manchester United at home next Sunday. The high-profile match is very important for both sides, considering the fact that Chelsea could created a nine-point lead over Manchester United who are current at the middle of the table with only 4 points from 3 premier league matches. Chelsea, on the other hand, leads the table with 10 points from 4 matches, ahead of second-placed Liverpool on goal difference.

Manchester United lost to Liverpool in the first big-four clash last Saturday. Another defeat for Manchester United would see them going behind by nine points from Chelsea at this early stage of premier league. Manchester United won the premier league as well as the Champions league last season and started the season as most favorite in both the competitions. However, their current form does not show anything impressive ahead of next Sunday’s high-profile clash at Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson is not happy with the way his defenders gave away goals against Liverpool. The manager is adamant his boys would not do the same thing against Chelsea this Sunday. Dimitar Berbatov, though, missed their Champions League opener against Villarreal due to knee injury, star winger Cristiano Ronaldo made his first appearance in the season against Villarreal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool would expect a Manchester United victory on Sunday in what they would get the chance to go atop the table ahead of the Chelsea. Now, one thing is for sure that Chelsea will be gearing up to take the revenge of their defeat to Manchester United at the final of Champions League last season, while Manchester United will be focused on improving their from.

Yaya Toure Says, “Arsene Wenger Asked Me to Join Arsenal During the Summer”

Arsenal was interested to sign Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure in the Summer transfer window. Recently, the Ivory Coast international revealed that his brother Kolo Toure, who currently plays for Arsenal, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had asked him to move to the London club in Summer. However, Yaya Toure played it down claiming that he is happy at Barcelona.

Yaya Toure, at 25, has lost his place in the starting line up of Barcelona since the new manager Pep Guardiola has taken over the Barcelona job at the start of the current season. However, Yaya Toure wants continue his campaign to get his place back in the starting line up of the Catalan club. He thinks, Barcelona has some of the best players in each and every position and he thinks that is what needed to become the best team in the world. The midfielder shows respect to the decision of the coach and wants to stay at Barcelona and again get his regular first team place back at Barcelona.

Arsene Wenger was desperately in search for a defensive midfielder over the summer to fill the gap left by the departures of Mathew Flamini, Gilberto Silva and Alex Hleb in Summer. He was even linked with a number of midfielders including Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso for a possible move to Emirates, but Wenger could not land any holding midfielder before the end of the Summer transfer window.

Cristiano Ronaldo Returns, but is It Enough to Energize Manchester United before Facing Chelsea?

Cristiano Ronaldo made his first appearance last night when they took on Villarreal in their Champion League opener at Old Trafford. The fact is that Manchester United could not make a good start in their title defense of Champions League as they were held to a goalless draw against Villarreal, last season’s runner up of Spanish La Liga. Even after Ronaldo had come on as a substitute in the second half, Manchester United did not pose any threat to Villarreal defense despite a few chances being created.

Now, Manchester United will travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea who are currently at the top of the table. In the back four points from three matches, Manchester United will go into the Chelsea match and it is pretty sure that Manchester United’s recent form does not have anything that could inspire their players before meeting Chelsea on Sunday in a high-profile premier league encounter. So far, Manchester United played six games overall this season and scored only four goals. No doubt, this form does not go with the class of Manchester United, who clinched prestigious double last season winning Premier League and Champions League titles.

Ronaldo was the highest scorer of both English Premier League as well as Champions League, and there were who thought missing a player like Ronaldo is one of the main reasons behind United’s dismal form this season. Well, Ronaldo came back against Villarreal as a substitute, and it seems that he will be back in Sir Alex Ferguson’s starting line up in the next match against Chelsea. But the question remains here is that whether Cristiano Ronaldo’s back in the starting line up is enough to boost up United and improve the current form of Manchester United.

Well, you have to wait for few more days to see if Ronaldo can appear with his prime form against Chelsea and make an excellent come back in premier league this season. However, I think, Manchester United needs to make an effective connection between midfield and attack as it was done by Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney pretty effectively last season. And also, United needs to ensure a flawless defense against Chelsea who have a strong midfield line up which is capable of controlling the whole match. Manager Alex Ferguson was not happy with the performance of his boys in the defense in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.

So, an in-form Cristiano Ronaldo could be lethal for any side, but that is not enough to outclass Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the stadium well-known as one of the hardest fortress to conquer in English Premier League. Manchester United must have to show excellence in each and every positions on the field in order to come out from Stamford Bridge with something that would satisfy the players as well as the fans of the Old Trafford side.

Frank Lampard about Chelsea vs Manchester United EPL 08-09 Clash

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has said that Chelsea is confident ahead of next Sunday’s high-profile premier league clash with Manchester United at home. The match has already been the centre of attention at this moment. After their defeat to Manchester United in last season’s Champions League final, this will be the first meeting between Chelsea and Manchester United.

Chelsea has recently got off to a good start in Champions League as the Blues defeated Bordeaux 4-0. Lampard was instrumental in Chelsea’s trash over Bordeaux recently. Frank Lampard does not think that Chelsea would need any motivation for the upcoming match against Manchester United, stating that no motivating is needed for a match like this.

Manchester United, on the other hand, is not at their prime form so far in the tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo has been back in action in their Champions League opener against Villarreal, making a substitute appearance. However, it is pretty much certain that Ronaldo will be in the starting line up of Ferguson for the Chelsea showdown.

However, Frank Lampard does not think that Chelsea has anything to fear about with the return of Cristiano Ronaldo in action. Though he has admitted that Ronaldo’s inclusion will definitely boost up Manchester United strength, he also believes that the way Chelsea is playing at this moment is enough to face whatever challenge Manchester United provides with.

Manchester United’s Dismal Start in Champions League Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s Return

Cristiano Ronaldo’s fist appearance this season could not help Manchester United to come out of their current bad-patch as they got off to a dismal start in their title defense of Champion League against Spanish club Villarreal at Old Trafford. Manchester United only managed to pick up only one point from the match as they were held to a goalless draw by Villarreal.

The most important thing is that Manchester United failed to win the match despite playing in front of the home crowd last night against Villarreal. The Red Devils are the defending champion in both Premier League and Champions League this season, but they got a poor start in both the tournaments this season. In Premier League, Manchester United recently lost to Liverpool at Anfield and could collect only 4 points from three matches in the league so far this season. With this draw, Manchester United’s 12-match winning streak in Champions League has been stalled.

Sir Alex Ferguson said in his post match interview that he would have been happier with three points from the match, but still he thinks, the draw against Villarreal was not United’s worst performance. United has a great chance to become the only first team since 1990 when AC Milan could successfully hold the Champions League title for the second consecutive year. The manager thinks, United is currently short of a bit of sharpness. Ferguson featured a strong attacking line up against Villarreal in the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez.

Now, Manchester United has only few days left at hand to get their from back before they meet Chelsea in a high profile premier league match at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.

Arsenal and Manchester United Interested in Miguel Veloso

Miguel Veloso has been a target for both Arsenal as well as Manchester United. The Sporting Lisbon midfielder was earlier reportedly linked with a number of European clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus over the Summer. Arsenal made a last-minute bid for the midfielder in the closing days of the summer transfer window. However, hi possible move to premier league or Serie A did not materialize during Summer.

Now, Veloso’s agent Paulo Barbosa has recently admitted that Arsenal and Manchester United are interested to sign the player and the player will cost at least 20 millions euros either club. Barbosa has also indicated that a possible deal for either club could be done in January transfer window. Liverpool won the match 2-1, even though United scored first in the match. It has been United’s first defeat to Liverpool in seven years. So, naturall

Sir Alex Ferguson is not happy with the performance of Manchester United defense in their morale-denting defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last night. Liverpool won the match 2-1, even though United scored first in the match. It has been United’s first defeat to Liverpool in seven years. So, naturally it will not make Ferguson happy. He is angry with the performance of his defenders and he admitted that it was unacceptable to give away two goals to Liverpool. Liverpool got the equalizer thanks to Wes Brown’s own goal in the first half, before Carlos Tevez had put Manchester Untied ahead in the third minute of the match.

Goal.com reported:

“Apart from our poor performance, giving the two goals away like we did is not acceptable for Manchester United,” he said to Sky Sports.

“When you are having a bad day you need to take something out of the game and we should of really done that, but it comes down to the defending, which was very poor for both of the goals,” Fergie added.

Alex Ferguson admitted that it was a bad day for Manchester Untied, but the manager also said that United should have come out of the match with at least one point. He said that Manchester United should have played better defensively. However, Ferguson gave the full credit to Liverpool saying that they were better side in the match.

Liverpool Confident ahead of Olympique Marseille Encounter, despite Torres Injury

Following the morale-booster victory over Manchester United at home last night, Liverpool is confident ahead of their opening match of Champions League 2008-09 away at Olympique Marseille on Tuesday. However, the premier league giants are worried about the fitness of the two key players: Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. Captain Gerrard came on as a substitute in the second half of their 2-1 victory against Manchester United after recovering from a groin injury that kept him out of England’s opening two world cup qualifiers.

However, Liverpool’s Spanish striker Fernando Torres was left in the sideline with hamstring injury and he is still doubtful for Liverpool’s upcoming Europe fixture. Torres, the highest goal scorer of Liverpool last season, picked up the hamstring injury during the match against Aston Villa on August 31 and since then he has been sidelined. However, one thing is for sure that Liverpool is now full of confident after clinching their first premier league victory over big rivals Manchester United in seven years.

Manager Rafael Benitez also expressed that Liverpool would travel to France with good frame of mind. He added that Liverpool would go into the Champions League in good heart and spirit. So, it is pretty clear that the whole team is now full of confident. So, I do not think that Torres’s injury would be a big problem for Liverpool while taking on Marseille, given the fact that they pulled off the victory over Manchester United without needing any significant contribution from Gerrard and Torres.
