Yaya Toure Says, “Arsene Wenger Asked Me to Join Arsenal During the Summer”

Arsenal was interested to sign Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure in the Summer transfer window. Recently, the Ivory Coast international revealed that his brother Kolo Toure, who currently plays for Arsenal, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had asked him to move to the London club in Summer. However, Yaya Toure played it down claiming that he is happy at Barcelona.

Yaya Toure, at 25, has lost his place in the starting line up of Barcelona since the new manager Pep Guardiola has taken over the Barcelona job at the start of the current season. However, Yaya Toure wants continue his campaign to get his place back in the starting line up of the Catalan club. He thinks, Barcelona has some of the best players in each and every position and he thinks that is what needed to become the best team in the world. The midfielder shows respect to the decision of the coach and wants to stay at Barcelona and again get his regular first team place back at Barcelona.

Arsene Wenger was desperately in search for a defensive midfielder over the summer to fill the gap left by the departures of Mathew Flamini, Gilberto Silva and Alex Hleb in Summer. He was even linked with a number of midfielders including Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso for a possible move to Emirates, but Wenger could not land any holding midfielder before the end of the Summer transfer window.
