Cristiano Ronaldo Returns, but is It Enough to Energize Manchester United before Facing Chelsea?

Cristiano Ronaldo made his first appearance last night when they took on Villarreal in their Champion League opener at Old Trafford. The fact is that Manchester United could not make a good start in their title defense of Champions League as they were held to a goalless draw against Villarreal, last season’s runner up of Spanish La Liga. Even after Ronaldo had come on as a substitute in the second half, Manchester United did not pose any threat to Villarreal defense despite a few chances being created.

Now, Manchester United will travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea who are currently at the top of the table. In the back four points from three matches, Manchester United will go into the Chelsea match and it is pretty sure that Manchester United’s recent form does not have anything that could inspire their players before meeting Chelsea on Sunday in a high-profile premier league encounter. So far, Manchester United played six games overall this season and scored only four goals. No doubt, this form does not go with the class of Manchester United, who clinched prestigious double last season winning Premier League and Champions League titles.

Ronaldo was the highest scorer of both English Premier League as well as Champions League, and there were who thought missing a player like Ronaldo is one of the main reasons behind United’s dismal form this season. Well, Ronaldo came back against Villarreal as a substitute, and it seems that he will be back in Sir Alex Ferguson’s starting line up in the next match against Chelsea. But the question remains here is that whether Cristiano Ronaldo’s back in the starting line up is enough to boost up United and improve the current form of Manchester United.

Well, you have to wait for few more days to see if Ronaldo can appear with his prime form against Chelsea and make an excellent come back in premier league this season. However, I think, Manchester United needs to make an effective connection between midfield and attack as it was done by Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney pretty effectively last season. And also, United needs to ensure a flawless defense against Chelsea who have a strong midfield line up which is capable of controlling the whole match. Manager Alex Ferguson was not happy with the performance of his boys in the defense in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.

So, an in-form Cristiano Ronaldo could be lethal for any side, but that is not enough to outclass Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the stadium well-known as one of the hardest fortress to conquer in English Premier League. Manchester United must have to show excellence in each and every positions on the field in order to come out from Stamford Bridge with something that would satisfy the players as well as the fans of the Old Trafford side.
