Ferguson Faces Liverpool Challenge in the Race to Land Ashley Young from Aston Villa

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly keen to sign Aston Villa winger Ashley Young who has also attracted interests from Liverpool.

So, it seems there could be a bidding war between the Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool for the 25-year-old Villa star at the end of the season.

According to a report published in The Times, Young is high on the target list of Manchester United for the summer transfer window with Ferguson seemingly impressed by the performance of the former Watford player.

It is understood that Ferguson would do some serious business this summer with some of his long-time soldiers like Giggs, Scholes approaching towards the end of their career.

Similarly, Liverpool would also like to strengthen their squad before heading into a revival mission next season.

Interests from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool would provide Villa officials some more grounds to make some quick cash in on one of their prized assets. Here, it is noteworthy that Ashley Young has not yet put pen on paper to extend his current contract which expires in Summer 2012.

Jose Mourinho: Moving to Manchester United or Chelsea?

It is a question that provokes curiosity among the football fans from around the world. Over the years, Jose Mourinho has earned lots of praise for his ability to produce quick success.

First Mourinho showed his talent in native Portugal; then proved his quality at a bigger stage in England with Chelsea, and then he conquered Italy with Inter Milan. Not many coaches, at the age of 48, could win as many titles as Mourinho did so far.

However, Mourinho’s time at Real Madrid is not going very well as his side is 5 points behind leader Barcelona in La Liga. Moreover, their performance in Europe is not that much satisfactory.

Now, there are rumors in the media he could leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and he has also revealed his wish to return to English Premier League, but this time as Manchester United manager.

However, his former club Chelsea is now reportedly offering him £10 million yearly salary. Now, let us see where Mourinho is going.

Steve Bruce: Manchester United to Win the Premier League Title

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce thinks Manchester United will win the Premier League title this season, not the North London side Arsenal whom his boys held to a goalless draw last night.

Arsenal had a good chance to go within a point of leader Manchester United with a victory over Sunderland last night, but Arsene Wenger boys blew the chance away as they could manage a point from the fixture. Now, Manchester United could increase the gap with Arsenal, if they can win at Liverpool today.

Stressing on experience, Steve Bruce believes that Manchester United is most likely to win the title. He thinks that winning the first title is always very hard and Arsenal is chasing for their first title in 6 years. On the other hand, Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson won many titles over the last few years including a Champions League title.

Bruce said, “If you look, Man United have the know-how and the experience. They are used to winning trophies. I think it is about winning the first trophy with a group of players.

Arsene Wenger has built three or four great teams, from the days of Tony Adams and Dennis Bergkamp through Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira and now to Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere and Robin Van Persie. However, this group of players has not been over the line yet, and they need to get over the line in a cup competition or in the league. Once they do that, they will go from strength to strength.”

No doubt, Arsenal players have not won any title in the last six years, but one can not forget that they have been pretty much consistent over the years and even once reached the Champions League final during this period. More than that, Wenger boys reached the Carling Cup final this year.

It is true that Manchester Untied is pretty much experienced, but time has not come to write off Arsenal yet.

Schalke Invites Offer from Manchester United for Manuel Neuer

German club FC Schalke 04 has invited written offers from Manchester United for their goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who has already attracted interests from United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Clemens Tonnies, the Schalke chief, recently said, “I have been informed by an international consultant that United are interested in signing Manuel. Provided they submit a written offer, we will deal with the matter and give them permission to speak to him.”
Manchester United has been in the lookout for a quality replacement for their 40-year-old current custodian Edwin Van der Sar who has already confirmed that he would hang up his boots at the end of the current season.
That is why, Ferguson signed Anders Lindegaard, a talented but somewhat a low-profile goalkeeper from Denmark, in January this year. However, it is understandable that United boss would still like to get a more capable keeper like Neuer who is currently Germany’s number one choice in goal and excelled during 2010 World Cup. So, it is expected that Manchester United would very soon come up with a written offer.
Neuer’s current contract with the German outfit ends in 18 months. So, naturally the club wants to make some money through the transfer of the 24-year-old keeper, other than letting him go for nothing.

Is Manchester United interested about Pepe Reina of Liverpool?

There is some media speculation that Manchester United is going to try to get Pepe Reina of Liverpool.
The financial condition of Manchester United is not that good but the owners are perhaps going to come up with some cash to get a good goalkeeper because current goalkeeper Van der Sar of Netherlands is now 40 years old. Naturally, he will most probably either retire from football after the season or most probably will not become so fit in the next season because of old age.
So, Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson is desperately looking for a quality goalkeeper. If this kind of rumor is true then it may put some pressure on the Liverpool coach. However, Liverpool owners would not be interested to sale Pepe Reina because he is a very good goalkeeper.
Yes, he will be a good addition in Manchester United squad but I think that right now, Liverpool needs him much more than any other club. Liverpool is trying to improve their position in the league table and at the moment Liverpool is at the tenth position with 22 points from 17 matches. This is not a lot of points but they are trailing the league leader Manchester United by 15 points. So, there is a possibility that if Liverpool can get some good players in the January transfer window then they may do well.
For Liverpool fans, the only thing they want at this moment is to qualify for UEFA Champions League next season. For that they have to be one of the top four clubs in the league table but that looks very difficult at this moment because Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all are much better form than Liverpool.

Manchester United: Nani can make a comeback against Birmingham

Manchester United is going to travel to Birmingham to play a match on 28th December 2010. If they can win this match then they will be able to extend their lead and they will earn 40 points from 18 matches. Right now, Manchester United is at the top of English Premier League with 37 points from 17 matches and the other three teams Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea are some behind them.
In the match against Birmingham on Tuesday, it is expected that the important player Nani may come back from injury.
Coach Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful that Nani will be able to play in the match and he really needs a player like him because Birmingham can become difficult.
Right now, Sir Alex Ferguson has to deal with some injuries and one problem is that their Asian good player Park Ji-Sung is unavailable. Paul Scholes is also unavailable through injury. So, the Manchester United supporters are hopping that tomorrow that on 28th December, Nani will be available and he will play well for the club.

Wayne Rooney: Manchester United Cannot be Invincible Like Arsenal

In this season, until now, Manchester United has played 16 matches in English Premier League and has not lost even one match. This has raised a lot of expectation among many supporters that club can go undefeated and match the success of Arsenal in 2003-04 season. However, Wayne Rooney thinks that it will not happen but there is a strong possibility that Manchester United will win the Championship this time.
Arsenal in that season won 26 matches and drew 12. Until now, Manchester United has played only 16 matches so far this season and they have to play another 22 matches. So, it will not be that easy and in this season, we have already seen that just all the top clubs are losing points.
For example, right now in the league table, just eight points separate the top seven clubs. And then just 6 points separate another 11 clubs. So, it is going to be an unpredictable season.
I agree with Wayne Rooney about this matter but I don’t think that Manchester United will be able to become champion that easily. It is really too early to say who will win the league table in EPL. Perhaps something will change in the January transfer window and top clubs will try to get some better players.

Suitors of Gareth Bale Increasing

Tottenham Hotspur’s rising star Gareth Bale has already become a hot property as a number of top European clubs are currently looking to secure his service. The 21-year-old Welsh international has been in sparkling form over the last one year and the left back, who is famous for his attacking intent on the left wing, is considered to be one of the best in his position in the world.

Manchester United tried to sign him this summer offering £20 million, but failed to bring Tottenham officials into negotiations. However, it is believed that Sir Alex Ferguson would make another attempt to sign the youngster next summer.

Besides the Old Trafford club, Real Madrid and Chelsea are also preparing a bid for Bale. Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified the Welshman as a major reinforcement to Real Madrid squad in his bid to bring back the club’s past glory. Mourinho failed to sign Chelsea left back Ashley Cole this summer and it seems he has now turned his attention to Bale.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is also an admirer of Bale and reports suggest that he could also attempt to sign him. However, given the player’s £30 million valuation by Tottenham, it seems that only Real Madrid can afford to convince Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp to change his stance of not selling Bale.

Lazio Looking for a Loan Deal for Federico Macheda

Italian club Lazio is reportedly trying to bring in Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on a loan deal. The 19-year-old striker is believed to be a future star for Italy.

Despite being immensely talented, he is currently struggling to get enough first team football at Old Trafford and comes behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen in the United pecking order.

According to a report published in Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Lazio is going to approach Sir Alex Ferguson in their bid to secure the Italian teenager’s loan service.

Manchester United signed Federico Macheda in 2007 from Lazio’s youth academy and the Italian started to appear for United senior team since 2008-09 season. He had 10 appearances last season, while this season he has already made 5 appearances in all competitions.

It is believed that Lazio would offer Macheda more first team action but, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson may not like the idea of sending him away for a loan stint with Lazio as his first choice striker Wayne Rooney has been struggling for form.

However, Lazio would still try their best to get their former student back for few months on loan with an option to buy him permanently at the end of the loan stint.

In England, Everton boss David Moyes has also shown interest in the young Italian. So, Manchester United can expect some offer for Federico Macheda in the January transfer window.

Wayne Rooney: I will be Fit for England Duty against Montenegro

Wayne Rooney has assured England manager Fabio Capello of his availability for England’s upcoming match against Montenegro on 12 October at the Wembley Stadium. The Manchester United striker picked up an injury during his side’s 2-2 draw against Bolton Wanderers.

Though initially it looked Rooney would have to sit out for 3 weeks, but now manager Sir Alex Ferguson expects him to be fully fit for the international duty. In fact, Rooney is reportedly interested to be involved in today’s Premier League fixture at Sunderland, but given his recent injury problems and lackluster performances, he is less likely to play at the Stadium of Light.

Wayne Rooney has come under pressure since his poor display in the World Cup, and controversies surrounding his private life has just compounded to his pressure. Even though Rooney dismissed that off-field issues were not affecting his on-field performances, the striker’s recent form does not support his claim.

Rooney is still struggling for his from and he believes that he can only get better by playing as much football as possible. He said, “I'll be fit [for England]. Hopefully [Fabio] Capello plays me but I'll be 100% fit, yeah. He (Ferguson) knows that I want to play in that game and I'm sure he wants me to play as well…

My performances could be better. I obviously missed pre-season and I've only played four or five games this season, but the more games that you play, the better your form will become, so I'm hoping to get a run of games.”

Wayne Rooney’s private life suffered a huge blow recently when the news of his illegal relationship with prostitute Jennifer Thompson came out in public.

Liverpool Pondering a January Move for Michael Owen

According to reports out in the media, there is a possibility Manchester United striker Michael Owen could return to Anfield in January and feature for Liverpool in the second half of the season.

Reports suggest that Reds manager Roy Hodgson is now considering a move for the former Liverpool great who is currently struggling for enough first team football at Old Trafford. Owen had a highly successful eight-year stint at Liverpool with 158 goals to his credit in 297 appearances.

However, the diminutive striker could not produce the same kind of performance for other clubs due to recurring injuries since leaving Anfield in 2004. The 30-year-old joined Manchester United from Newcastle United in 2009 as a free agent and is trying to cement a regular place in Manchester United’s eleven.

It is said that Owen could be tempted by the opportunity of a return to Liverpool, hoping for more first team action in what would help him in his bid to impress England manager Fabio Capello.

Michael Owen could be excellent addition to Liverpool squad too. Currently, the Reds are too much reliant on striker Fernando Torres, and thus, producing unnecessary pressure on the Spaniard. So, the arrival of Owen would ensure more options up front for Hodgson.

However, it is expected that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would not be interested to go him away in January while Wayne Rooney has been struggling for form.

John O'Shea Warned Teammates of Sunderland Threat

Manchester United center back John O'Shea thinks that his team can face a tough test away at Sunderland on Saturday. O'Shea is also aware of the atmosphere at the Stadium of Light where Sunderland troubled many big teams in the past.

Manchester United, currently 2nd in the league table, would be looking for full points from the fixture, while Sunderland would like to clinch at least a point against the Red Devils. Sunderland’s recent form is pretty much impressive as they held Arsenal and Liverpool in their previous two matches- meaning their confidence level is high too.

John O'Shea said, “The last few seasons they've been very tough games up there. Steve Bruce definitely enjoys the battles against the manager.”

Sunderland’s strength increased significantly since the arrival of Ghana international Asamoah Gyan in the summer. The Ghanaian could be a threat for United defense which looked shaky on a number of occasions this season. John O'Shea himself is under pressure following some sloppy performances.

“The last few seasons we've had tough games up there but we've managed to come out on top. If we under-perform it can be tough. We know the atmosphere there - if they win a throw-in or a free-kick their fans cheer as if they've scored,” O'Shea said regarding the atmosphere of the Stadium of Light.

Another worrying factor for Sir Alex Ferguson is that his side could not win full points in the away fixtures this season with a 2-2 draw away at Bolton Wanderers being the latest.

Ryan Giggs Excited about Javier Hernandez

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has been overly excited about young Red Devils striker Javier Hernandez. The Mexico international produced the winning goal for United’s 1-0 midweek victory over Valencia in Champions League after coming on as a second half substitute.

Giggs has even gone on to compare the 22-year-old striker with former United great Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The veteran midfielder said that he was excited seeing Hernandez in the pre-season and believes that the Mexican is natural finisher.

It was Hernandez’s first competitive goal for Manchester United and it came when his team needed it most. It looked to be a draw before the excellent strike from Hernandez.

It is not surprising that someone like Giggs is comparing Hernandez with his once teammate Solskjaer. Hernandez had a very successful World Cup with Mexico and is considered as a future star for Mexico.

While Wayne Rooney has been a worrying factor for manager Sir Alex Ferguson this season, strong performances from Hernandez and Berbatov must have relieved his worry to some extent.

At the moment, Manchester United is facing more problems in the backline. The likes of Evra, John O'Shea exposed too many occasions this season, costing United valuable points. They are now 3 points adrift of leader Chelsea.

Manchester United Comes on Top of West Ham by 3-0

Manchester United got an empathetic victory against West Ham today with the score line 3-0. Wayne Rooney scored his first goal of the season. With this win, Manchester United is now in the 3rd position in point table with 7 points from 3 matches.
In the half time, the score was 1-0. Wayne Rooney’s goal came in 33 minutes from a penalty. The other two goals were scored by Nani 50 minute and Berbatov 69 minute respectively.
This defeat has put West Ham in the last in the point table. They have yet to secure any point in EPL this season and goal difference of -8 will not make anyone happy in the club.
Chelsea and Arsenal both won today. However, Tottenham lost to Wigan 0-1. It was a very bad match to lose because it was a home match for Tottenham.
As for the next matches, Manchester United will travel to Everton while West Ham will entertain league leader Chelsea. Both these two matches will take place on 11 September 2010.
In an off topic, I am excited about the upcoming Apple Music Event. What about you?

Javier Hernández: Manchester United rising star

Manchester United’s Mexican forward, Javier Hernández, displayed his talent at the friendly match with MLS All Stars on July 28, 2010. The 22-year old forward played only for 28 minutes and scored a brilliant goal on his debut match ensuring his return in the main team in the season.

The friendly match between MLS All Stars took place at Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas. The match saw a crowd of 70,728, making a record for any soccer game at the Reliant Stadium and the fourth highest for an All-Stars game.

The credit goes to Javier Hernández, the 'El Chicharito,' who attracted a large number of Mexican people to the game and satisfied them with his first score for the Manchester United.

Manchester United scored five goals against MLS All Stars 2. Interestingly, Manchester United team did not have its star player at the friendly but younger players who faced the MLS All Stars line-b up made up of players brought from eight clubs.

Hernández was introduced at the 62nd minute. He scored his first goal from Darren Fletcher’s ball at the 84th minute.

Hernández got Man U’s attention in October 2009. A scout went to Mexico in December 2009 and reported about his game. Manchester United went into a quick bid for the player for they were afraid that he would be called into the World Cup Squad. Hernández was finally signed up on April 8, 2010 for Manchester United for £7m.

Manchester United vs MLS All Stars Time and Live Score: North America Tour 2010

Manchester United faces MLS All-Stars on 28 July 2010 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, USA in their last friendly match in the United States. The Red Devils would go into the match on the back of a morale denting 2-1 loss to Kansas City Wizards last Sunday.

Time

The match kicks off at 00:30 GMT (01:30 BST). In the US, the match begins at 20:30 (New York time), at 17:30 (California time) and at 19:30 (Central Daylight time).

MLS All-Stars team consists of the best players of Major League Soccer (MLS). Players are chosen by the votes of fans, players, coaches, general managers, and the MLS All-Star head coach and MLS commissioner. Since 2005, MLS All-Star teams have been facing an international club every year with Manchester United being the opponent this year.

Manchester United already played three friendly matches on their North America tour 2010. They first defeated Celtic in Toronto before winning over Philadelphia Union. However, the Red Devils lost to a 10-man Kansas City side in their recent showdown.

However, the Premier League giants are now determined to bounce back against the MLS All-Stars side. A victory over the All-Stars would boost up United’s confidence level ahead of the upcoming season.

It is pretty much clear that Manchester United is going to face a tough challenge from the MLS All-Stars team which includes the star players like US internationals Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle, both of whom recently represented their country at the World Cup in South Africa.

Los Angles Galaxy star Landon Donovan has the previous experience of playing in Premier League as he spent the second half of the last season on loan to Everton. So, his Premier League experience would help the All-Stars team. A vastly experience player, Donovan has already represented USA in 127 international matches.

Donovan’s Galaxy teammate Edson Buddle has been in impressive form as he is currently the leading goal scorer with 12 goals to his credit in the ongoing MLS season.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has all the reasons to be worried about. First of all, MLS All Stars team has some highly experienced quality players. Secondly, United is currently without the first choice players like Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Evra, Vidic, Owen, Ji-sung Park and some others. Thirdly, Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea picked up two minor knocks during the match against Kansas City and could miss the MLS All-Stars match.

It is sure Ferguson would feature his best possible eleven on Wednesday. The experienced first choice players like Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, in-from Dimitar Berbatov would be in the starting line up.

Fletcher and O'Shea would also make the first eleven, if they can recover from their injury problems in time. However, the good news is that new signing Javier Hernandez has joined the Manchester United squad at Houston on Tuesday.

Overall, football fans are expecting a highly entertaining affair at the closed roof Reliant Stadium. The Premier League side would not like to suffer another defeat, while the MLS stars would be looking to clinch a remarkable victory over one of Europe’s best clubs.

Nemanja Vidic Committed His Long Term Future to Manchester United

Manchester United center back Nemanja Vidic has decided to continue his club career at the Old Trafford. He was one of the priorities of Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho’s transfer target. However, the Serbian has now signed a new four-year contract with the Red Devils.

Nemanja Vidic joined Manchester Untied from Spartak Moscow in 2006 and very soon became Ferguson’s first choice central defender alongside Rio Ferdinand.

The 28-year-old has already won one Champions League, three Premier League, three League Cup and two Community Shield titles with the Old Trafford side. Over the last four seasons, Vidic represented United in 186 matches in all competitions, averaging more than 46 matches per season.

So, the performance of Nemanja Vidic was convincing enough to attract Mourinho’s attention. However, seeing the possibility of losing a highly reliable defender, Ferguson did not make any delay to offer him an improved deal in his attempt to ensure Vidic’s long term commitment to the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson has already won more titles then any other managers in the history of Premier League. However, he has all the reasons to be worried about United’s future. First of all, Manchester United is under huge debt and there is no way Ferguson could spend a lot in the transfer market.

Moreover, a number of reliable veterans like captain Garry Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and goalkeeper Edwin van Der Sar are now towards the end of their careers. Rio Ferdinand is also on the wrong side of 30.

The most important thing is that Untied youth side has failed to continue providing quality home-grown talents like it once did in early 1990s when a pool of young players including Neville brothers, Beckham, Giggs and Scholes came through the Manchester United youth academy.

Amid all these problems, the news of Nemanja Vidic staying must have come as a sigh of relief for Ferguson as well as Manchester United fans.

Manchester United vs Kansas City Wizards Time and Live Score: North America Tour 2010

Manchester Untied is going to face MLS club Kansas City Wizards tonight (25 July 2010) at the Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas in USA in the third friendly match on their North America tour 2010. Manchester Untied defeated Celtic 3-1 and MLS side Philadelphia Union 1-0 in the previous two games and would like to continue their winning run against Kansas City Wizards too.

Time

The match kicks off at 22:00 GMT. In the US, the match begins in New York time at 18:00, in California time at 15:00 and in CDT (Central Daylight time) at 17:00.

Pre-season friendly matches are always very important for the fringe players who want to impress their managers to get a regular place in the club’s starting line up. From this point of view, Manchester United’s first two friendly matches have been pretty much successful as the young players like Danny Welbeck, Corry Evans and Gabriel Obertan showed considerable amount of improvement.

Even underperformed Dimitar Berbatov indicated to get his rhythm back ahead of the next season. Berbatov remained the shadow of his best over the last couple of seasons and manager Sir Alex Ferguson was even reportedly planning to sell him this summer.

Kansas City Wizards would also like to bring out a satisfactory result in this match. It is true that Wizards would not start as favorite, but their players could be inspired to put on some eye-catching performances against one of the best European clubs.

Kansas City Wizards is not a well-known name in the football world, but in the MLS they have seen some success including MLS Cup 2000 title. They have some quality players like captain Davy Arnaud, former Chelsea player Craig Rocastle and former Arsenal and Southampton player Ryan Smith.

Manchester United is clearly favorite to win the match, but it is also clear that winning is not the only objective of the United players. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson would like to play some other young players against the Wizards ahead of United’s match against MLS All-Stars on 28 July.

Overall, football fans could experience a highly entertaining match with both sides having some goals to achieve, other than just winning the match. Wizards players would like to catch the attention of international media by putting on some good performances against Manchester United, while the United players would like to catch the attention of Ferguson in their attempt to clinch a regular first team place next season.

Manchester United and Arsenal Tracking Phil Jagielka

Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka has attracted interest from top premier league clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal. Phil Jagielka may have missed most of the last season through knee injury, his versatility and experience could easily make an impact in any of the premier league side. The player can also play as a full back as well as a midfielder. Naturally, any club would like to capitalize on his versatility.

Arsenal is now looking for a defender with William Gallas all set to leave the Gunners this summer. Moreover, Arsene Wenger recently pointed out defense as the weak point of Arsenal. Manchester United, on the other hand, has a plenty of good central defenders, but the Red Devils suffered a lot during the last season when a number of defenders were out of action through injury. So, Sir Alex Ferguson would also like to strengthen his defense back up.

It is reported that both the clubs would start bidding for Phil Jagielka at Phil Jagielka. However, Everton would like to cash in on the player’s ability.
