Liverpool Pondering a January Move for Michael Owen

According to reports out in the media, there is a possibility Manchester United striker Michael Owen could return to Anfield in January and feature for Liverpool in the second half of the season.

Reports suggest that Reds manager Roy Hodgson is now considering a move for the former Liverpool great who is currently struggling for enough first team football at Old Trafford. Owen had a highly successful eight-year stint at Liverpool with 158 goals to his credit in 297 appearances.

However, the diminutive striker could not produce the same kind of performance for other clubs due to recurring injuries since leaving Anfield in 2004. The 30-year-old joined Manchester United from Newcastle United in 2009 as a free agent and is trying to cement a regular place in Manchester United’s eleven.

It is said that Owen could be tempted by the opportunity of a return to Liverpool, hoping for more first team action in what would help him in his bid to impress England manager Fabio Capello.

Michael Owen could be excellent addition to Liverpool squad too. Currently, the Reds are too much reliant on striker Fernando Torres, and thus, producing unnecessary pressure on the Spaniard. So, the arrival of Owen would ensure more options up front for Hodgson.

However, it is expected that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would not be interested to go him away in January while Wayne Rooney has been struggling for form.
