Euro 2008 football tournament kicks off from 7 June (tomorrow) and this has become the main attraction in the football world now. The 16-team tournament takes place in Austria and Switzerland jointly, in what becomes the second Euro tournament to be organized by two countries jointly. It is natural that football fans are now excited with this tournament. Though only European teams are participating in it, Euro tournament always has a worldwide fan following because of the passion and the excitement of the tournament. Some of the leading soccer teams across the world are from Europe. Thus, Euro is considered as the second most popular football tournament after world cup in the football world. Many stars emerged in this tournament so far. So, with another Euro is approaching, naturally football fans are moved by the tournament and now eagerly waiting for the kick off of Euro 2008 tournament.

All the 16 participating teams are divided into four groups of four teams in the group stage and the four teams in each group will play against each other in the round robin league system. Top two teams from each of the groups will progress to the knock out stage of Euro 2008. This is the general format of the tournament. Group C is considered to be the ‘group of death’ in the presence of three football power houses- world champion Italy, France and Netherlands- alongside in from Romania. Well, it does not mean that other groups are very easy for the favorite teams to get through to the quarter final. Actually, I would not be surprised to see a number of upsets in Euro 2008 tournaments, given the fact that differences among the teams are narrow and that any underdog team can overcome with an inspirational performance. So, I think, Euro 2008 is going to be an excellent tournament, and causing upsets might continue from the previous tournament when Greece emerged as the winner of Euro 2004 tournament.

You know it is not possible for everyone to go and attend the matches in Austria and Switzerland. So, television is the next best option to enjoy the tournament sitting at home. Today, when I was searching about television broadcast of Euro 2008 tournament, I came to know that ESPN Star Sports will broadcast Euro 2008 matches live for the South Asian audience. In fact, ESPN Star Sports will telecast the matches live in the seven countries of SAARC region including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka. So, the audience of these seven countries would be able to enjoy the Euro 2008 matches live on ESPN Star Sports television channel.

ESPN Star Sports is a joint venture of two renowned television channels across the world: ESPN and STAR TV. It covers various sporting events of different sports including Cricket, Soccer (football), Baseball, Tennis, Car Racing (Formula One) etc. It conducts its activities in 25 countries in Asia.

If you are a football fan and live in the aforementioned countries, then I think, you should not forget to turn on your television during the match time and stick to ESPN Star Sports television channels.
