India vs Pakistan Practice Match Live Updates: 3 June 2009

India and Pakistan will face each other in a much-anticipated warm-up match on 3 June 2009 ahead of the upcoming twenty20 world cup 2009. This is a mere practice match where both teams will be focused to test their squad strength in stead of winning the game. Well, it does not mean that the two arch-rivals would not try to win the match. In fact, India and Pakistan are the two big rivals in world cricket and whenever they face each other, cricket fans just expect a classic match. This match is no different as well. So, cricket fans are expecting a highly entertaining match tomorrow at the Kennington Oval, London, England.

Match: India vs Pakistan, Warm up Match, ICC World Twenty20 2009

Date: 3 June 2009

Venue: Kennington Oval, London, Englanddd

Kick off: 16:30 GMT (Local Time 17:30)

Live TV: Star Cricket Television Channel

The interesting thing is that India and Pakistan are the two finalists of the inaugural twenty20 world cup 2007, but both teams lost their first warm-up games against New Zealand and South Africa respectively. So, both teams would now like to win the next match before they start their twenyt20 world cup 2009 mission. There is no doubt that both teams would like to bring some changes in their squad in order to ensure that all the squad members get some practice before the final event kicks off on 5 June 2009.

India lost the first only by 9 runs against New Zealand, even though they were on the right track till the end of the match. Indian bowlers conceded some extra runs towards the end of the New Zealand innings, while Indian batsmen failed to dominate over the Kiwi bowlers when it was needed in the dead overs. However, India’s overall performance was no too bad.

Channelnewsasia reported:

India were well on course to make the 171 they needed for victory during a fourth-wicket stand of 69 between Suresh Raina (45) and Ravindra Jadeja which featured some superb clean hitting to match the top-order fireworks of opener Rohit Sharma (36).
Left-arm spinner Vettori, who finished with excellent figures of three for 24 in three overs, had big-hitting rival captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni stumped for just six and after Raina holed out to medium-pacer Jacob Oram the innings fell away despite a run-a-ball 41 from Jadeja.

In contrast, Pakistan failed to play according to their potential in all three departments against South Africa as they lost the game by 59 runs. Pakistani bowlers conceded many runs from the beginning of the South African innings as South Africa took 186 runs losing 7 wickets. However, two spinners: Saeed Ajmal and Shahid Afridi- could get some success over the South African bowlers. Pakistan’s batting was most disappointing as they failed to deliver what they were expected to. Pakistan lost wickets pretty regularly and got all out only for 127 runs while chasing the winning target of 187 runs.

So, you can see that Pakistan has a number of things to worry about ahead of the match against arch-rival India. Pakistan cricket has been suffering a lot mainly because of the country’s deteriorating security conditions. Many cricket playing nations are reluctant to tour Pakistan and ICC has recently stripped off Pakistan’s host status for the ICC World Cup 2011 which is supposed to take place in South Asia.

After arriving England, Pakistan captain Younis Khan revealed his excitement as Pakistan would return to international cricket and he vowed to win the ICC World Twenty20 2009.

AFP reported:

"It is special to be back on the world stage, especially in Twenty20 and in England, the media are here so lots of hopes are here," the talented batsman told reporters at Lord's here on Sunday.

"We are suffering from not playing regularly, and no-one is coming to Pakistan," he added.

"My confidence is that I'll take this trophy to Pakistan," he said. But such has been Pakistan's relative lack of international cricket that he added: "It will be an achievement for us to finish in the top four."

So, there is no doubt that Pakistan cricket will receive a massive boost if they can win the tournament this time what they failed to do two years back when they were beaten by the eventual champion India in South Africa. That is why, Pakistan is expected to be determined to do well in the upcoming tournament.

Pakistan cricket team has some good players in the presence of a number of hard hitters like Shahid Afridi, Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal and Misbah-ul-Haq. Young opener Ahmed Shehzad showed some prospect against South Africa in the first warm up game, scoring 31 runs from 26 balls. Pakistan’s lower order showed some considerable success in the warm up match, and this shows that Pakistan has a good batting depth which could be pretty much effective if top order batsmen can perform according to their potential.

Well, I think, Pakistan would like to bring some changes in their squad for the match against India. Pakistan should give a chance to their two uncapped players: opener Shahzaib Hasan and pacer Mohammad Aamer because they were absent against South Africa. Moreover, a middle order batsman Fawad Alam also deserves a game before the final event starts next Friday. Pacer Yasir Arafat is also expected to get a game against India.

Defending champion India did not play two key batsmen: Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh against New Zealand in the first practice game. Naturally, they would now like to play the two batsmen against Pakistan before heading to the final tournament. These are the two possible changes you might see in India’s final eleven against Pakistan. Pacer Zaheer Khan is recovering from injury and would not be able to play against Pakistan in the last warm up game.

There is no favorite when India and Pakistan play against each other. India seems to be slightly ahead of their arch rivals in terms of recent form and squad strength, but you can not just write off Pakistan yet. They have a very balanced squad and Pakistan has the reputation to bounce back. So, we can expect that we are going to see another classic match between India and Pakistan on Wednesday.

India is Champion of Twnety20 World Cup 2007

India has won the first Twenty20 world cup 2007 defeating Pakistan by 5 runs. It is a memorable win for India. This is the first time that India and Pakistan met in the final of any world cup tournament. This is also the first time since 1983 World Cup that India won a major cricket trophy.

Indian batsmen scored 157 runs in their allotted 20 Overs. Very few people thought that it would be enough. India opened the batting in a good way with Yousuf Pathan trying to score some quick runs. He got out after scoring 15. Gautam Gambhir played an excellent innings. He came to bat in the opening and he stayed until 18 overs. He played a superb innings. He passed 200 runs in the first Twenty20 World Cup. Except Gambhir no one could bat so well. India lost wickets at regular intervals. For India, the highest run came from Gambhir. He scored 75 runs off 54 runs. More than everything, he kept wicket one end and he scored his 75 runs quite quickly.

R Uthappa, Yovraj and Dhoni disappointed the fans as they got out very cheaply. Towards the end, RP Sharma scored 30 runs off 16 balls and it was a very valuable contribution. In fact, at one stage, it seemed that India would not even pass 140 runs.

For India the batsmen scored:

Gambhir 75 (54 balls)

Yousuf Pathan 15 (8 balls)

R Uthappa 8 (11 balls)

Yuvraj Singh 14 (19 balls)

MS Dhoni 6 (10 balls)

RP Sharma 30 not out (16 balls)

Irfan Pathan 3 (3 balls)

You have to give huge credit to Pakistani bowlers. They bowled superbly and most of the time they could deliver Yorker length balls. In fact, all of the Pakistani bowlers bowled well and Indian batsmen failed to go after any particular bowler. Umar Gul captured 3 Indian wickets and he was the most successful bowler for Pakistan. They did everything right and kept Indian batsmen under pressure right through the end of Indian innings.

Chasing 158 runs Pakistan started well. However, they lost wicket at regular intervals. Pakistan got all out at 152 leaving three balls at hand. Opener Imran Nazir started well. He was scoring quickly and before getting out he scored 33 runs off just 14 balls. He scored four boundaries and two over boundaries. Younis Khan scored 24 runs facing 24 balls.

However, Pakistan middle order suddenly has broken. Pakistan lost six wickets at 77. However, their run rate was impressive though they lost wickets at regular intervals. The drama was waiting for the fans and it started when Misbah-ul-Haq started hitting sixes. Sohail Tanvir played a cameo innings of 12 runs off 4 balls. Pakistan needed 13 runs in the last over. Rudra Pratap Singh and Irfan Pathan played superb and both took 3 wicekts each. Irfan Pathan took two wickets of Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi. This was the turning point of the match.

I think, it was a typical India vs Pakistan. There was huge excitement and this is a memorable match in cricket history. Both India and Pakistan made the match some special for the cricket match.

Former great cricketers of Pakistan team are giving inspiration for the players and they think that Pakistan will win the tournament. Wasim Akram has said that Pakistan team had self belief and confidence. To him, Pakistan is favorite in the final.

The Hindu reported:
"This team has a lot of self belief and confidence and they have got into the habit of winning matches. In my book, they are favourites," Akram said.
He pointed out that Pakistan's biggest strength was that captain Shoaib Malik was leading from the front which had a positive effect on players.

Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja said that Pakistan players should be calm during the match. It is true that India vs Pakistan match always creates huge pressure on the players. That is why, many star players can not perform well in India vs Pakistan match. So, it is yet to see which team will be bale to remain calm and poised.

India vs Pakistan: Pakistan Making Plans to Stop Yuvraj Singh

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has recently said that they are going male special plan to stop Yuvraj Singh. This left handed batsman is now in his prime form and in the last two matches, he was firing against the opponent bowlers. Yuvraj hit six 6s in an over against England in his way to play the fastest half century in Twenty20 cricket. Then in the match against Australia, Yuvraj Singh played another devastating innings of 70 off just 30 balls. So, naturally Pakistan will try to stop Yuvraj Singh at the beginning of the innings. Shoaib Malik also praised his team mates to give 100 percent effort in the field.

Reuters reported:
The skipper said Pakistan would be devising a special plan for Yuvraj Singh, the Indian batsman who scored six sixes in one over against England and cut Australia's attack to shreds in Saturday's semi-final in Durban.
"He has been playing superbly and, of course, we will meet after practice today and, God willing, come up with some sort of plan for him."
"I have never seen batting like that before and he is in very good form.

Ahead of the India vs Pakistan match, the whole cricket world is now excited and all are hoping to see another classic match between India and Pakistan. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said that the final will be another do or die match for India. Actually, Indian captain is trying to inspire his team mates to consider it just a do or die match as India did their match against South Africa and Australia. I think, he wants the players not to take extra pressure as it is an India vs Pakistan match.

Reuters reported:
"So we will treat the final as just another do-or-die match. You need to go on to the field and give 100 percent and not worry too much about the outcome."
"You have to be calm when you make decisions that will have a big impact on the game. If you are calm, you have more chance of making the right decisions, but having several team mates who have played over a hundred international matches really helps too," he said.

The match will have huge excitement and the fans are eagerly waiting for this match. India vs Pakistan match is also something special and as it is a world cup final, the match is now the most talked event in world cricket. Now, it is yet to see if Dhoni can bring another world cup title for India.

India and Pakistan captains are confident that ahead of the final of the Twenty20 world cup. The coming India vs Pakistan match will be something special for the cricket world as this is the first time, these two rival teams are going to face each other in a world cup final. Both the teams are young and they have some key players who are going to be future star in world cricket.

Both India and Pakistan came in South Africa to show some impressive performance so that their fans can forget the disastrous performance of India and Pakistan in the last ICC world cup. So, India and Pakistan were out of focus and that worked well for them. Indai and Pakistan roared past the strong teams in their way to the final.

IOL reported:
"The World Cup is history," said Malik. "What we have to concentrate on now is the final tomorrow. We will be approaching it as we have approached every game in the tournament - we will be playing to win, and every player will be giving 100 percent."
"We will be treating it as just another match," said Dhoni. "We have played some very tough matches in this tournament, and we have handled the pressure. The match against South Africa was a do or die affair, and then we had a very tough match against Australia. We handled the pressure well and we came through."

So, it seems that both teams will try their best to win the title and go back to their home with the first world cup title of Twenty20 cricket. I hope to see a classic match between India and Pakistan. Naturally, the India vs Pakistan match gets much focus in the cricket world. Now, it is a world cup final and also India vs Pakistan match. So, you can realize that how much excited the fans are ahead of this match.

India vs Pakistan: Yuvraj Singh’s Dream

Yuvraj Singh is the man in form for India in Twenty20 World Cup Cricket 2007. He has been in superb form in the last few matches. In the match against England, he scored 6 sixes in one over. Then, in the semi final match against Australia, Yuvraj Singh again showed his skill and contributed most for Indian team. It was the dream of Yuvraj Singh to see a India vs Pakistan final match in world cup. His dream has come true.

NDTV wrote:

Will India's earlier victory over Pakistan be enough to give us the psychological edge and will we be able to sustain our current form? These are all questions that we will be asking during the countdown to what has to be one of the most anticipated matches of cricketing history.

"India-Pakistan, a dream come true final. The whole world is going to be watching," said Yuvraj.

Yuvraj Singh is echoing the sentiments of a billion Indians. And it's not just him, but the rest of team India too, which will know just how big an opportunity this is for them.

Moreover, both India and Pakistan came to play in Twenty20 world cup with a young side. Indian selectors have given the captaincy to young Mahendra Singh Dhoni and there are many inexperienced players in the squad. Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik is also young and most of his key players are young. So, both India and Pakistan have the same kind of players in terms of experience and skill.

However, I think, India has better chance to win the match. This is my personal opinion and you may not agree with me. I think, almost all the players of Indian team have got success in this tournament and that is why, they are confident enough before they face Pakistan. For example, Joginder Sharma was thought to be very expensive. However, in the last match, he bowled the last over against Australia while Australia needed 22 runs to win the match. Joginder Sharma bowled very well and took two wickets conceding just 6 runs. This may be too impressive to you but for a new bowler it is really inspirational and it will boost his confidence.

Though Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir could not do well in the last two matches, they had proved their ability earlier in the tournament. Robin Uthappa is consistently performing and he seems to be next star batsmen for India. Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are dominating over the opponent bowlers. New comer Rohit Sharma also proved his skill in the match against South Africa saving India from a crucial situation. Indian bowlers are also performing very well. Rudra Pratap Singh, Sreesanth, Irfan Pathan have been impressive in the tournament. Harbhajan Singh is also doing his job perfectly. So, you can easily understand that when all the players are playing well for a team, the confidence of the players also increases.

However, it is also true that Pakistan team also performing consistently but their only problem is that they lack a quality spinner in the side. Though Shahid Afridi is bowling excellently well, they should have included a quality spinner in the squad. Sometimes, occasional spinners cannot work well, especially in the big matches. However, I think, Misbah-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik can be vital for Indian bowlers. Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan are experienced enough to play a big role for Pakistan in the final. Now, I hope to see a classic match between these two rival teams. India vs Pakistan match should be a typical India vs Pakistan match: this is the common anticipation of all fans in the cricket world.
