Barcelona Furious at Arsenal Signing Jon Miquel Toral Harper

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell slammed Arsenal for the latter’s recent signing of 16-year-old Jon Miquel Toral Harper from Barcelona academy. The North London side spent £300,000 to bring the striker, and thus, infuriating Barcelona camp.

Regarding the deal Rosell said, “It's very important to keep this group of young lads together with a grounding in our way of playing football.

'We don't like it when other clubs come with offers of money just before the player's 16th birthday. It's legal but a little immoral.”

Rosell’s reaction is pretty much understandable given Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s record of spotting talented players whom others just overlook. Wenger brought current Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona academy in 2003 when the midfielder was just 16-year-old and last summer Barcelona had two offers for the Spaniard turned down by Arsenal.

Rosell may have his own reasons to be frustrated, but the reality is that Barcelona is currently struggling financially and cannot offer contracts to all the potential young boys.

So, when a boy of 16 cannot get some sense of assurance from his existing academy and at the same time is offered a contract by a club of Arsenal’s stature who has a history of nurturing young talents then naturally he would do exactly what Toral has done.

Barcelona should not be disappointed, rather they should learn a lesson and focus more on young talents instead of spending millions on the star players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic. In fact, Barcelona has already produced some of today’s world famous players like Lionel Messi.

Arsenal will be looking to defeat Barcelona

Arsenal football club could able to finish their game against Barcelona with a 1-1 draw in the last 16 of the Champions League, with the first leg at the Emirates Stadium. It was not an easy task for the host team to manage a draw against Spanish champions Barcelona. Arsenal will be looking for taking revenge over Barcelona after that convincing draw.

Arsenal lost the match by 2-1 in the 2006 final in Pars and since then they have never beaten the Spanish club in a competitive game.

Barcelona defeated Arsenal by 6-3 in total in the quarter-final stage last season. Argentine star, Lionel Messi, scored four goals in the second leg as Barca won 4-1 in Camp Nou.

However, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, said that revenge was not in his mind. He wants his team to be qualified and knock their opponent out. He had predicted about the last game between these two teams that two sides would be drawn together.

Arsenal won two matches out of their 12 competitive tours to Spain, at Celta Vigo and Real Madrid, while they lost seven and finished three games with draw.

If Arsenal can defeat Barcelona in the second leg of the last 16 then they will be qualified for quarterfinal.

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal's north London rivals, received a draw against the Serie A leader AC Milan, with the first game at the San Siro.

English football club, Manchester United, will face Marseille of France while Chelsea will take on Danish champions FC Copenhagen, the weakest side left in the competition.

In a repeat of last season's final, European champions Inter Milan will play Bayern Munich.

Barcelona Camp should offer good money or Shut up about Cesc Fabregas

This is very funny and annoying for anyone at Arsenal. The entire summer 2010, it was almost everyone at Barcelona club who just talked and talked about how they value Cesc Fabregas. How he is a part of their DNA and how they want him back. However, when it comes to money, they are not ready to talk so much and change the topic.
If Barcelona has enough money to buy a player like Cesc Fabregas then they should not speak much and instead put a good offer that Arsenal will accept happily and Cesc Fabregas can go to his home club. There is nothing wrong in it. Clubs are all the time buying and selling players.
However, when it comes to money, we can see another face at Barcelona camp. They say that they are not insane to spend so much money for Fabregas. If Fabregas is really a world class player then why they should not spend money. They don’t mind spending for Messi or other players in their squad. It is just when it comes to Fabregas then they forget how modern football works. Then they talk about DNA all the time but not about money. They are not even in good shape financially.
Barcelona players and officials have been acting like stupid persons with very low IQ. They need to change it and grow up.

Arsenal Valued Cesc Fabregas at ₤80 million

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has already made it clear that he sees future away from Arsenal. The midfielder has grown into a world class player since his arrival at the North London club from Barcelona in 2003. Now, Barcelona is desperate to complete the signing of their former student before the world cup football 2010 begins. Barcelona is reportedly interested to spend ₤30 million for the player.

However, Arsenal has recently valued Fabregas at ₤80 million. So, it seems that the final decision on his future may come after the world cup, though Barcelona wants to wrap up the deal before the tournament considering that a successful world cup could escalate the player’s price.

Arsenal, on the other hand, has no headache at the moment as it knows that Fabregas would move to Barcelona sooner or later. Now, Gunners are keen to make some good cash in on their most prized asset.

Arsenal and Chelsea Eyeing on Barcelona Midfielder Gai Assulin

Arsenal has now set their target on Barcelona’s young midfielder Gai Assulin. The Israel international has also attracted the attention of Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The advantage is that Assulin has now been a free agent. So, he can move to any club according to his wish, without seeking Barcelona’s consent.

Signing young talents from Barcelona is nothing new to Arsenal. The North London club signed current captain Cesc Fabregas and Fran Merida from the Catalan side in the past. Over the years, Cesc Fabregas has developed into one of today’s best playmakers in the world.

Assulin did not get enough first team football last season. As a result, there are many reasons for him to consider the Arsenal and Chelsea interests. Considering Wenger’s reputation in nurturing young talents, Assulin could be tempted to move to the North London club.

Chelsea, however, is trying to bring in some young players in its bid to strengthen the squad for the next season. The Blues have many experienced players, but it lacks youthful exuberance. So, Ancelotti is looking to land some young talented players in the summer transfer window.

Lionel Messi of Barcelona becomes FIFA World Player of the Year

Lionel Messi of Barcelona has been awarded as the FIFA World Player of the Year 2009. He plays for Argentine national football team and he is the first footballer from his country to grab this award. Still, his strong performance for his Spanish Club Barcelona FC that brought him this success. Lionel Messi is just 22 years old and in the last one year, he has helped Barcelona to win 6 trophies in home and away.
His reaction was modest:
"A magnificent year for me and Barca has ended in the best way.
"No, please, I am not king of the world now, nor the number one, I don't believe in those things.
"I am the same person as always and I have the good fortune to play in a great team. It was an historic year for Barca and for me but it's thanks to the work of everyone."
Earlier this month, he became European Footballer. In both occasions, former Manchester United striker and current Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was in second place.

Barcelona Wins FIFA World Club Cup 2009

Barcelona has added another title to their 3 titles already won in 2009. The Catalan side defeated Argentine club Estudiantes 2-1 in the final of the world club cup tournament. The match was 1-1 level after 90 minutes, but Messi ensured the Catalan victory scoring in the 10th minute of extra time.

Barcelona already won Champions League, Spanish League and Copa del Rey titles this year. Manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that Barcelona has had their best season in 2009, but he does not think that this is the best Barcelona squad in the history.

Lionel Messi is the name who was instrumental behind all the titles Barcelona won this year. In fact, the Argentine striker has already won the Ballon D'Or title as the best European footballer and is now favorite to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award too.

Barcelona Looking to Win Sixth Title in 2009 at World Club Cup

Barcelona already has 5 trophies in their kitty in 2009 and they are now looking to add World Club Cup trophy to their list of success this year. No doubt, 2009 has been one of the most successful years in the history of the Catalan side. Now, they are trying to make it more glorified.

Barcelona progressed to the final of the FIFA World Club Cup final defeating Mexican team Atlante 3-1 in the semi final. They are determined to win the tournament final against Argentine outfit Estudiantes. Their semi final victory was not as easy as it was thought. In fact, the European champions had to rebound from a goal down in the game.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez hopes that Barcelona will perform better in the final and win the tournament. Estudiantes defeated Korean club Pohang Steelers 2-1 in the last four and progressed to the final.

Four Barcelona Players among the Top Ten Contenders of European Player of the Year Award

This year’s European Footballer of Year Award has four Barcelona players in the top ten nominees. Earlier, 30-men shortlist for the award was announced last month. Four Barcelona players who have made it to the top ten are: Lionel Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Ibrahimovic who moved to Barcelona last Summer from Inter Milan. Barcelona rivals Real Madrid has 2 players in the top ten and they are Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. Both the players joined Madrid last Summer for record breaking transfer fee. That means there are 6 La Liga players in the top ten. Only 3 premier league players: Steven Gerrard, Drogba and Rooney- are in the top ten nominees. Samuel Eto'o is the only Serie A player in the list.

Well, I am not surprised to see four Barcelona players among the top ten contenders of the Ballon d'Or award. They are the reigning champions of Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey, and they became the first ever Spanish club to win the treble last year. Ronaldo is the current winner of FIFA World Player of the Year and European Footballer of the Year awards, but Barcelona’s Lionel Messi seems to be favorite for both the awards this year.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid who will win: 29 November 2009

Tomorrow, Real Madrid and Barcelona are going to play in a very crucial match in La Liga 2009-10. At this moment, the two teams are very close in the title rase with just one point separating them. Real Madrid is the leader but I have just told you that they are leading by just one point and tomorrow’s match is a home match for Barcelona. So, Barcelona fans are expecting that their team will win the match and go at the top of La Liga table this season.
If we look at the performance of the two teams then it is very difficult to say who will win the match. Barcelona has played 11 matches and scored 29 goals whereas Real Madrid scored 27 goals from same amount of matches. Here, I like to mention that in England, Arsenal has scored 36 goals from 12 matches. So, you can understand that Arsenal is even better conditioning in scoring goals this season. Anyway, there is one good news for Barcelona. Their top striker Lionel Messi is going to return in this match after recovering from an injury that kept him out for the last few matches.
The come back of Messy will give the club Barcelona a lot of boost and his presence is always dangerous for the opponent side. If Messy returns to form then he will be a very big headache for defense of Real Madrid club.
If Barcelona has Messy then Real Madrid has Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo was also injured for long time and in the previous match, he just played twenty minutes for Real Madrid. So, Real Madrid fans are also expecting that Ronaldo will be in good form tomorrow and he will cause the same kind of problem for Barcelona that depends like Messy. I think that Barcelona has a very strong midfield and quality attacking option. Henry is in good form and also there are some quality midfielders. Real Madrid are also a very strong and solid team.
You can find a good analysis of the match here:

Barcelona vs Real Madrid Preview, Live Score: La Liga 2009-10

I think that the match will be draw or Barcelona win because it is a home match for Barcelona and in their home stadium, Barcelona is always very strong. Anyway, I have noticed in the last few years then El Clasico happens then the player two sides suffer from nervous stress. As a result, the matches do not become very dutiful and the players all the time under pressure. I hope that tomorrow the same thing will not happen and we able to enjoy a very good match.

Barcelona Handed Eric Abidal a Contract Extension of 1 Year

Eric Abidal has now extended his contract with Barcelona for a year. Under the new contract, the defender would remain at Camp Nou until 2012. He was already under contract till 2011 and now added one more year to his deal.

Eric Abidal suffered from swine flu last week and was not expected to feature in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan in Champions League. However, the defender was included in the starting line up and played very well. He said that Barcelona showed their best performance against Inter Milan this season, even though they were without two key players Messi and Ibrahimovic.

Barcelona is going to host Real Madrid in the first el classico of the season on Sunday. It is a crucial game and Abidal is expected to play a huge role in the Catalan defense, if Barcelona wants to nullify Real Madrid attacks.

Joan Laporta: Cesc Fabregas Plays Barcelona Style of Football

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has recently revealed that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas plays Barcelona style of football. He has also made no secret that Barcelona is interested to acquire his service, and thus, giving more ground to the speculation that the Spanish international could move to Barcelona in January transfer window. In fact, if the reports out in the media have something to go by, then the Catalan club is going to make a €50 million bid for Fabregas.

Arsene Wenger brought Cesc Fabregas in Arsenal from Barcelona at the age of 16 back in 2003. Over the last 6 years, Fabregas flourish his potential and established himself as one of the key player of the current Arsenal squad. In fact, he was made captain of the North London club last season after William Gallas was stripped off the captaincy role.

Joan Laporta has said that Fabregas is a product of Barcelona. However, he has also stated that he has full respect for his current deal with Arsenal. Well, that does not mean that Barcelona would not try to tempt their former student to go back to Spain and play for the current European champions.

Robinho Very Near to Move to Barcelona?

Last year when Robinho moved from Real Madrid to Manchester City for a British record transfer fee, there were mixed reactions among his fans. Some thought the move was right as he was not getting enough first team football in Madrid, while some believed that he should have moved to a club like City as the club does not play in Champions League.

Now, reports out in the media suggest that the player could move to Spain to join Barcelona, the arch rivals of Real Madrid. If the Daily Mirror reports has anything to go by, there is every possibility Robinho could play the second half of the season for Barcelona.

Fansfc reported:

It is believed Barca are prepared to pay £3million for an initial loan deal with a balance of £31million to be paid in the summer, or a £34million payment to take the player permanently in January.

Well, nothing is confirmed yet. Manchester City’s Arab owners have spent a huge amount in their pursuit to quality for the Champions League. However, the huge investment has not been reflected on City performance so far this season.

Valencia Turned down €42m Bid for David Villa by Real Madrid, Barcelona

During Summer 2009 transfer window, speculation was rife that Valencia striker David Villa would join either Real Madrid or Barcelona. However, Valencia later on made Villa unavailable for sale in Summer. Now, Manuel Llorente, president of Valencia, has recently revealed that he turned down €42 million offer for the striker from both the clubs.

First, Real Madrid approached the offer in order to acquire the service of Villa, but Llorente initially wanted a swap deal by which Alvaro Negredo and Esteban Granero would join Valencia and Villa would move to Real Madrid. Later on, Valencia was keen on a deal worth €30m and Negredo, in exchange of Villa. However, Real Madrid did not agree on the deal. Barcelona then stepped up with the same offer, but Valencia turned it down and announced that they would not sell Villa.

Barcelona vs Chelsea 08-09 Champions League Match: Didier Drogba in Confident Mood

(This entry was originally published on Sunday, April 26th, 2009)

Didier Drogba is perhaps now the key striker of Chelsea football club. He has scored 9 goals in the last 12 matches. It shows that he is in good touch and his club can rely on him for getting goals. He recently expressed his feeling to the Guardian newspaper and Didier Drogba stated that he understood the expectations of the fans and he would definitely try to make the fans happy.

Last year, Chelsea came very close to winning the trophy in Champions League but in the final, lost to Manchester United in tie breaker. Didier Drogba’s team is going to play Barcelona this Tuesday night and the match will take place in Spain. So, the first leg will be held in the home stadium of Barcelona and Barcelona will have home advantage. The main focus of Chelsea should be to get a draw. If they can get a draw then they will be the favorite in the second leg at England.

Barcelona Targeting Arsenal Striker Emmanuel Adebayor

(This entry was originally published on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009)

It seems that Barcelona officials are becoming fan of Arsenal club. Two years ago, they broke the heart of many Arsenal supports by signing Thierry Henry with a huge amount of money. They are also after Cesc Fabregas and it seems that it is a matter of time and million dollars before Fabregas joins Barcelona. Now, they are seriously targeting Emmanuel Adebayor. Adebayor is the best striker of Togo national football team and he is also the top striker of Arsenal. Last season, he was the only striker in EPL who could put up any kind of competition against the world no. 1 player Cristiano Ronaldo. He is also doing well this season too. I do not feel that Adebayor should follow Henry’s footstep and leave London. He is still very young and he has a lot of football to give. In Arsenal, he can be always sure that Arsene Wenger will put him in the first eleven as long as he can deliver performance. On the other hand, he will be under tough competition at Barcelona as there are players like Eto’o, Messi and Henry. So, he will also struggle to be in the first eleven and if he loses his time and youth then after two or three years, he may have a lot of money but he will feel that he has wasted his best time by leaving London. Here, I would also like to remind the readers about Denis Bergkamp and Emmanuel Petit. Emmanuel Pettit was a French midfielder and he was a very influential player in Arsenal a decade ago. At the same time, there was Bergkamp who hung on at the London club and he became a legend. On the other hand, Emmanuel Petit left too early and lost his form in other clubs and in the end became a failure. The same thing goes for Nicholas Anelka who was considered to be the next Ronaldo or Ronaldinho, but he did the same mistake by leaving Arsenal too early and he is still struggling to get his best form.

Chelsea to Swoop for 11-year-old Barcelona Goalkeeper Daniel Cardenas

(This entry was originally published on Thursday, January 1st, 2009)

Chelsea youth chief Frank Arnesen has found something special in an 11-year-old goalkeeper Daniel Cardenas who is currently in ‘Alevin A’ youth side of Spanish giant Barcelona. There is enough indication that Chelsea would jump into a battle with Barcelona to bring Daniel Cardenas at Stamford Bridge youth side. On the other hand, it is pretty understandable that Barcelona would not leave any stone unturned to keep Daniel Cardenas at Barcelona. Moreover, Barcelona must have learnt from their arch-rival Real Madrid who are struggling to bring out quality players from their youth system.

Parents of the young prodigy Daniel Cardenas now have to decide the future of their son who seems to have great talent and potential that has earned attention from two European powerhouses: Chelsea and Barcelona. Reports also have it in the media that Chelsea is now in talk with Barcelona about the 11-year-old young goalkeeper.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is well known for identifying talented kids and has so far been criticized by many for recruiting young boys in Arsenal youth side. In fact, UEFA president Michel Platini was also very critical of Wenger’s youth policy few months back. Now, it seems that Chelsea is also going to walk on Arsenal’s path. In fact, Chelsea’s current no. 1 goalkeeper Petr Cech also started playing football at a tender age of 7 at the youth side of Czech club FC Viktoria Plzen.

Sergio Aguero to Join Barcelona Next Season: Claims Argentine Press

(This entry was originally posted in this blog on December 6, 2008 and the information is based on that time.)

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero will join Barcelona next season as Barcelona President Joan Laporta is in discussion with Sergio Aguero’s current club Atletico Madrid. This has been suggested by two Argentine dailies Golpasion and El Depornauta. According to Argentine media, Barcelona is ready to pay €55 million as transfer fee for the 20-year old Argentine striker.

Sergio Aguero is one of the young prospects of Argentine football. Since joining Atletico Madrid in 2006, he has grown as a player and gathered experience

Goal.com reported:

The two publications claim that Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, is currently in discussions and hopes to to bring the player to Catalonia for June next year.
El Depornauta says that Barça will pay €55 million for Agüero, who rejected a massive offer to leave the Madrid side for Chelsea this summer.
Agüero joined Atlético Madrid from Independiente back in 2006 and has since become their most valuable player, growing in stature and promise to lead the line with Diego Forlán.

Atletico Madrid is currently at the 6th place in the league standing, despite Aguero’s excellent performance. Naturally, Sergio Aguero may want to play for a big club like Barcelona in what would ensure him regular Champions League appearance. I do not know whether to believe this report or not, but one thing is for sure that any big club would happily sign a player like Sergio Aguero who is still 20 and has a number of years left in his career. Now, let us see if Sergio Aguero really makes a move to Barcelona next season.

Barcelona to Tour North America in Summer 2009

Barcelona will tour North America in the off season (Summer 2009). On the tour, Barcelona will face Dadiv Beckham’s Los Angles Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and another major league soccer club. Barcelona has a strong relationship with Major League Soccer (MLS) as the Catalans have five-year contract with MLS.

Barcelona will face Los Angles Galaxy on 1 August and then take on Seattle Sounders on 5 August. Club president Juan Laporta has said that the club is excited to tour USA and feature some of its great players and performances before Barcelona fans in the US. Last year, Barcelona tried to buy a new franchise in MLS, but later on changed their mind.

David Beckham is currently playing for AC Milan in Italian Serie A on loan, but will join Los Angles Galaxy at the end of the season. So, by the time, Galaxy will face Barcelona, Beckham will be available to feature for the MLS club.
