Eric Abidal has now extended his contract with Barcelona for a year. Under the new contract, the defender would remain at CampNou until 2012. He was already under contract till 2011 and now added one more year to his deal.
Eric Abidal suffered from swine flu last week and was not expected to feature in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan in Champions League. However, the defender was included in the starting line up and played very well. He said that Barcelona showed their best performance against Inter Milan this season, even though they were without two key players Messi and Ibrahimovic.
Barcelona is going to host Real Madrid in the first el classico of the season on Sunday. It is a crucial game and Abidal is expected to play a huge role in the Catalan defense, if Barcelona wants to nullify Real Madrid attacks.
