Features of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 inch Tablet PCs

Samsung Galaxy Tab has so far been the only tablet PC which could put up a bit of competition with Apple iPad. The South Korean company has already shipped more than 2millioni units of 7-inch Galaxy Tab which was released in September 2010.

Samsung has now unveiled two more Galaxy Tab devices with two different sizes including one featuring 10.1-inch display and the other 8.9-inch display. Except the difference in display size, the two tablets are pretty much similar in terms of features available.

Display

Both the 10.1 and 8.9-inch devices come up with a WXGA display with 1280x800 resolution. The display resolution is even better than 1024x768 resolution available in Apple iPad 2.

Processor, RAM and Storage

Both the new Samsung Galaxy Tabs are powered by dual-core 1GHz processor which is good at multi-tasking. Users would find 1GB of RAM in the two news tablets, compared to iPad 2’s 512MB of system memory. Alike iPad 2, Samsung offers three storage options: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB- with the two new Galaxy Tab devices.

Operating System

Both the devices run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system which is the only tablet-centric OS from Google’s Android platform.

Connectivity

Users will find 21 Mbps HSPA+, Wireless-N Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR in the upcoming Galaxy Tabs.

Camera
Two news tablets would come up with a 3 megapixel rear-facing camera, capable of capturing high definition video recording, and a 2MP camera at the front for video calling.

Battery

There is a 6800 mAh battery available in both of the Samsung Galaxy Tab devices. Users are expected to enjoy a long time back up thanks to this battery.

Micro SD Card Slot and Adobe Flash Support

Here, the upcoming Galaxy Tabs have an edge over iPad 2. Users of the two Galaxy Tabs would be able to expand memory thanks to a micro SD card slot and run Flash supported content as the two devices support Adobe Flash 10.2. Neither of the features is available in iPad 2.

Price

Smart pricing by Samsung. The 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab with 16GB storage is available for $499, the same as the price of iPad 2 16GB device. You have to shell out $599 for the 32GB storage. The 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab starts at $469 with the 32GB priced at $569.

Overall, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tabs look pretty good and it seems the two devices could even beat Apple iPad 2 in some areas. The 10.1-inch device will be launched on June 8, 2011, while the released date of 8.9-inch device is not yet revealed.

Samsung Dismissed Media Rumors of Rising Stock of Galaxy Tab

South Korean handset maker, Samsung Electronics Co, has dismissed all the media rumors suggesting the company is struggling to sell Galaxy Tab with inventory staking up. Even there are rumors in the market that Samsung could have to cut the Galaxy Tab price significantly to stave off the iPad 2 challenge from Apple.

However, James Chung, a Samsung spokesman, has revealed that the company is not facing any problem with Galaxy Tab and these are nothing but rumors.

Mr. Chung said, “We don't comment on market speculation but such talk is absolutely groundless. Our tablet strategy is offering a broad product range with different sizes to support wider customer choice.”

It is true that Apple iPad is still the dominant force in tablet PC market and it would remain so at least for the time being, but Samsung’s performance in the tablet PC market has not been that bad. In fact, the South Korean company has so far sold 3 million Galaxy Tabs since its launch last year.

Recently, Samsung launched Galaxy Tab in two new sizes: 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch. The company claims these are the thinnest tablet PCs in the market so far and it is expected that the two new Galaxy Tabs would surpass the success of its 7-inch predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy Tab WiFi Only version priced $399: Answer to iPad?

First of all, it is just a rumor at this moment. Still, a Samsung Galaxy Tab WiFI only for just $399 looks to be a good bargain. It will surely make the tablet device more attractive. It is rumored to be released on April 4 2011. If it really happens then Samsung may be able to start a competition against Apple iPad. Well, this now brings us to the question: will this rumored Galaxy tab with a price tag of $399 be able to compete against iPad 2 or the first version?
To answer to the question, I don’t think that it will be able to offer any strong competition against iPad version 1 or 2. First of all, these days people are crazy for iPad 2. Even the original version costs just $399. By the way, this Samsung will come with 2.2 Android version and is rumored to be released on 4 April 2011. I feel somewhat disappointed because I wished that Samsung would release the device with Honeycomb or Android version 3.0. Well, the only thing that goes for Samsung tablet is that the tablet is available in all the major carriers in USA.
So, we feel that the rumored Samsung Galaxy Tab WiFi Only version has a decent chance of competing against Motorola Xoom in the US market. The Korean company should have released this device for $399 in November 2010 instead of April 2011. Then it could have been able to generate much more buzz in the market. Just 4 months could have really make a lot of difference.

Samsung launches Galaxy Tab tablet to compete with Apple’s iPad

Samsung has unveiled its first tablet PC, Galaxy Tab, at the IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin. With the launch of the company’s first tablet device, Samsung's Galaxy Tab is perhaps going to take on Apple’s iPad.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab is a perfect device that will help users to read e-books, newspapers, and allows voice video communication, SMS, MMS and email. Samsung has tied up with three different apps for e-reading. It will allow PressDisplay for news, Kobo for e-books, and Zinio for magazines.

Sporting 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, the Tab is half the size of the iPad. This small device is easy to carry because it can be hold with one hand in Kindle-esque fashion. Because of its small size, it will be easier to use than the iPad when the user on the go.

Featuring Android 2.2, it will also be able to support the latest version of Adobe Flash. Its’ connectivity feature includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Weighing 13.8 ounce, the device mentions how much lighter is than the iPad tablet. The device is powered by a Cortex A8 1.0GHz application processor. However, its HD video content is supported by a wide range of multimedia formats.

Like the iPad, the Tab uses similar keyboard layout, but it is too small for the pseudo-touch typing. However, users can type using thumb finger without facing too much trouble.

It also has a 3 megapixel camera on the back with a flash and auto-focus. It also includes a 1.3 megapixel user-facing camera.

Let’s see if it can take on Apple iPad’s dominance.
