Netherlands and Romania is going to play in a crucial match of Euro 2008 tomorrow (17 June 2008, Tuesday). The match is not important for Netherlands as they are assured of quarterfinal whatever happens. In fact, Holland is already assured of the top position from Group C. On the other hand, all the other 3 clubs have do or die situation tomorrow. Romania has to win the match to go the quarterfinal. In other match of the group, Italy will face France and both of them can suffer elimination tomorrow night. So, Group C is going to be the group of death after all indeed.

Many people think that Netherlands is the best team of Euro 2008. Yes, the Dutch players have played superbly and have defeated Italy in the first match and then France in the second match. In fact, defeat is a bit kind of word. Netherlands demolished and destroyed the opponents in the two matches. So, a lot of is being expected from them tomorrow. Well, there is media speculation that they may rest some of their key players as they have nothing to lose in tomrorow’s match.

Canadian Press wrote:

Van Basten could either field a full reserve team, or give just a few players rest, or just stick to his winning team. He has not spoken publicly since the win over France and Sunday's training was closed.

Some players, like relentless dynamo Dirk Kuyt, will likely be rested to be fully fit for next Sunday's quarter-final match in Basel, where the Netherlands will face the runner-up of Group D, likely Sweden or Russia.

If Netherlands rest some of its key players then it will surely make many fans of France and Italy unhappy. Italy and France both wish that Netherlands come in the field with their full strength so that they defeat Romania and that will give them a chance to go to the quarterfinal. Some Italian fans have already talked about a conspiracy theory about this.

Guardian wrote:

Italy's goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, suggested that Holland would want to put Romania out rather than risk facing them again. "I think Holland would want to meet Italy or France in the semi-finals, after the way they manhandled us in the first games," he said. "I want to face Holland again too - to even the score."

France's approach appeared designed to goad Holland into proving that any fears were unfounded. "They won't play with as much energy as they did against us and Italy," said Raymond Domenech, the manager. "It's very difficult to imagine Holland beating Romania now."

Conspiracy or no conspiracy- you have to admit that the current Netherlands team have playing like the Flying Dutch Men indeed. In the last match, they were superb against France. Most of the players are playing very well. They look like a formidable side in all departments. They have perhaps the best goalkeeper of Euro 2008. They have a formidable striking force. A lot of credit is given to the coach of Netherlands, Marco van Basten. Marco van Basten has won this trophy as a player in 1988 and he dreams to do so as a coach now.

DW World wrote:

Now, with the finals in full flow, van Basten -- who is attempting to add the European title as a coach to the one he won as a player -- looks to have gotten the mix right in his final tournament as national coach before returning to Ajax as first team coach in July.

Ominously, van Basten has warned that his side, which has taken the tournament by storm, still has room for improvement.

Well, you should not take Romania that lightly. For many years, Romania is considered as a dark horse in World football. In fact, in FIFA World Cup, they have eliminated some top teams in the last 2 decades. Romania captain Cristian Chivu thinks that they have what it takes to defeat Netherlands. Romania drew both of their earlier matches against France and Italy. This shows that they are not a bad side. In fact, they are in the second position now in this group. If both the matches end in draw tomorrow then Romania will go to the quarterfinal along with Netherlands.

The Star wrote:

The Romanians have their destiny in their own hands after following up a goalless stalemate draw with France in their opening match by holding world champions Italy to a 1-1 draw in Zurich on Saturday.

With the two teams that contested the 2006 World Cup final reeling from their thrashings at the hands of the rampant Dutch, the Romanians know a win over what is likely to be a second-string Holland side will put them in the quarter-finals.
