Australia vs
Japan- this really should have been the final match of Asian Cup Football 2007. Because
Australia stumbled in the first two group matches, we have this match in quarter final stage.
Japan has topped Group B and they won two games while drew one. On the other hand,
Australia lost one and drew won and won the last match against
Thailand and could manage to become second in group A. So,
Australia vs
Japan is indeed the clash of the titan.
This is first time that Australia is playing in Asian Cup Football. Many people thought that they would become the champion of this tournament. However, Australian team has disappointed all people in the first two matches. In the first match, Australia drew 1-1 against Oman. In the second match, Australia was devastated by Iraq 1-3. The Australian suffered a lot of criticism in home and abroad.
The players made up everything in the final match of the group stage against Thailand. This was a very difficult match for Australian players because first of all, they were under huge mental pressure to perform. They had to win the match or would suffer exit from the first round. Thailand was doing well in the tournament until the last match. Secondly, heavy rain took place during the match Australia-Thailand. Yet, Australia demolished Thailand by 4-0. No one expected such huge margin in the score line. In this match, Australian players tried to prove that they are the best team in this competition.
On the other hand, Japan had more smooth passage to the quarterfinal stage. In the first match, Japan drew against Qatar 1-1 and this disappointed many fans. Japanese team was under immense pressure and criticism. Japan won the trophy of Asian Cup for the lat two times. So, millions of people in Japan are dreaming that this year, they would win the tournament and make a hat trick.
In the second match, Japan came back strongly and defeated UAE 3-1. Then earlier today, Japan defeated Vietnam 4-1. So, in the 3 matches Japan scored 8 goals while suffered only 3 goals. Japan has the best goal difference in favor of them among all teams in the tournament so far.
Against this backdrop, the quarter final match between Japan and Australia is going to take place on 21 July 2007. The match is going to take place in Hanoi (Vietnam). I think that Japan will get one extra advantage about venue. Japan has played all the 3 group matches in Vietnam. So, they are already adjusted to the environment. For Australia, it will be a new place.
Both the teams are in fine form now. It will be an exciting game. Japan is a strong team and traditionally do well in Asian Cup Football. On the other hand, Australian players have shown what they are capable of in the last match against Thailand. So, Australia vs Japan will be a very exciting match.

I wish I could be as confident as you of Australians form, don’t get me wrong I love them and they have on paper the best side in this comp however they have (even against Thailand) been very un impressive in the Asian Cup at least not to the potential that this side can play at.
ReplyDeleteGranted it could be anything, the weather, the coach whatever, but it still doesn’t change the fact they are not at the same level they were at when they rocked Germany in 2006, they will definitely need to improve allot in preparation for Japan.
Though against Thailand the score line says otherwise Australia only dominated for roughly 60 mins there was a giant session there where Thailand were given opportunities to strike but couldn’t deliver I guarantee that if Japan get those same opportunities they will make them count and Australia will hurt because of it.
I hope that they can pull it together against Japan because they are a better side and it is more than likely that whoever takes this game out will end up taking the cup. I don’t write Australia off, they can do it, but the way both teams are playing at the present time, I would have to say Japan is playing much smarter and classier football then us
Japan are going to win this easily. Australia are good on paper, but they don't appear to have a game tactic. While Japan are utilizing their skill and their football is very free flowing and excellent. Osim has done a great job. I think 3-0 Japan, they have been playing brilliantly this tournament, and I expect them to walk out of hear with the cup. On top of all this, since Ivica Osim took over, Japan has outscored their opponents, 23-6. And in this tournament group stage outscored their opponents 8-3. They are yet to be beaten in 2007 so I think Japan are going all the way.
ReplyDeleteAussie's all the way when its do or die the socceroos perform it will be tough and the Austalian defenders will definatly need to play alot better than they have been and do everything they can to mark Shunsuke Nakamura out of the game. If they can focus on closing those gaps in the back, give as much ball as possible to Kewell they can Take advantage of Japans weak defence (no weaker than Australias but weak all the same)and may find them selves winning. yeah weve sucked these past few games but Japan has been playing dummy sides aswell Australia are a world class side and Japan will find that this win will not be as easy as there previous mathches
ReplyDeleteGo Australia, Go baby Go
I think japan will have the upper hand in this game. Im Australian and always supported aussies, but they just havent been up their form in the asian cup. The world cup was different as they had Guus Hiddink, who i think is probably the best coach in the world (Took Koreans to the semis in 2002, now taking the Russians on course to qualifying before England in Europe). Australia do have the bigger names on the books, but that doesnt really count when there is no teamwork. We have seen the weakness in our defence with such inexperienced defenders. Japan is a technical side, more likely to play better than iraq, so Australia must perform at its highest level to beat them. The key to winning the match might just lie with Viduka and Cahill. We can dominate aerial balls and with our speed and strength, we can cause mixup in their defence. Stamina is a key factor but unfortunately getting to hanoi a few days before the match and playing in vietnam gives us no advantage in that regards. Remember we only beat japan in 2006 in the last ten minutes, as they were obviously tired near the end of the game. I think it would be an exciting game, espescially when i see the aussies "shuffling" or "handchecking" the japanese around the pitch (Hey, Grella is the master of doing that, he's always pushing people around and in the Iraq game pushed the other guy out of the field (and outside the view of the camera as well)! That was hilarious!)
