Reading Turned Down the Trial for Drug Detention Scheme at the Manchester Untied Match

Premier league club Reading has recently turned down an offer to undertake a trial for a drug detection scheme which was supposed to be taken place at the upcoming league match against Manchester United. Following negative reaction from the club supporters, the club ahs immediately cancelled the trial.

ESPN Soccernet reported:

Head of communications Andy West said: 'This was not a police initiative and we simply accepted the offer of a trial from a private company.

'It was never planned to actively search people and the initiative was primarily a training exercise for ICTS, but we do not want to upset supporters so the plans have been cancelled.

'We do not believe, and have never believed, that we have a problem with drugs at Madejski Stadium, and we understand the public reaction to the plans.

'We have no intention of offending any supporters so the trial will not be taking place.'

The match against Manchester United is expected to attract many local fans to be present at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow. However, if the club were stick to the trial, the number of fans could be decreased, which would cost the club financially. Naturally, no club will be happy to face financial problem.

Preview of Manchester United vs Reading

Manchester United is now at the top of the premier league point table. So, they will definitely try to hold on the place leaving Arsenal behind in the second place. However, to do so, they have to ensure three points from Saturday’s away match against Reading. The mid-table side has been playing well with their limited strength so far.

However, Reading will miss some of their key players for different reasons. Ibrahima Sonko, Andre Bikey and Emerse Fae are now with their national sides to take part in the African Nations Cup. John Oster (ankle) and Glen Little (heel) will also miss the match with injuries. Manchester United will miss Louis Saha as he is suffering from a knee injury.

However, the good news for Manchester United is that midfielder Owen Hargreaves and defender Wes Brown will be available for the match. Reading boss Steve Coppell has admitted that if a team like Manchester United play well then they will Reading will lose. So, he has insisted that his players will try to stop Manchester Untied playing well.

Manchester Untied is now their great form. They have projected a smashing 6-0 victory over Newcastle Untied in their last league match. So, it would be very tough for Reading to achieve even a point from this match, despite the fact that they take on Manchester United on their home ground. However, if Manchester Untied can not play their natural game then Reading will have chance in the match.

Ryan Giggs Says, It will be an Open Match against Reading

The word, ‘impressive’ seems to be less appropriate for Manchester United’s recent form. With their latest 6-0 triumph over Newcastle United, the defending champions moved up to retain their top place in the league point table leaving behind Arsenal by goal difference. It is true that both the clubs have the equal points in the league point table and neither Manchester United not Arsenal can afford any slip off at this moment.

Midfielder Ryan Giggs, however, warned his teammates to be overconfident on this regard. He also had praise for the Manchester Untied defense. Now, ahead of the match against Reading tomorrow, Giggs thinks that Reading will come out of the shell and try to score, instead of just defending Manchester Untied with the hope of achieving a point from the match.

Goal.com reported:

"We have had so many clean sheets this season and you need that foundation to go out and play with flair.
"Reading are a team that won't just sit back and defend. They will go out and try to score goals so hopefully it will be an open game."

However, Manchester United is in their great form. I think, Cristiano Ronaldo, the star midfielder of Manchester United, who just got his first hat trick in the season in their 6-0 victory over Newcastle United, will have a big part to play against Reading. Though he will not home supporters with him, Ronaldo will try to continue his imperious form in the match.

http://techblogbiz.blogspot.com/2008/01/reading-vs-manchester-united-live-score.html

Manchester United projected an emphatic victory over Newcastle Untied last Saturday. With that victory, the Red Devils has retained their top place in the league table after few weeks. This is the second time Manchester United has come atop the league point table. Manchester United rose to the first position just before the Christmas, but could not hold on even a week. Arsenal led almost all the season so far with their impressive run. Still, Manchester United and Arsenal equal 51 points, where Manchester Untied is ahead of Arsenal in goal difference.

Now, Manchester Untied is going to travel to Reading on next Saturday in their next league match. After their 6-0 victory over Newcastle United, Manchester United now looks very strong and confident to take on mid-table Reading. Despite the early setback, Manchester Untied has come with full swing in the title race. So, ahead of the away match at Madejski Stadium, Manchester United is clearly favorite against Reading.

Reading, on the other hand, stands in the thirteenth position in the league table with 22 points to their credit. Reading has won only 6 matches against 4 draws and 112 losses so far in the season. However, considering their strength, their performance is satisfactory. Ahead of the match against Manchester United, they will have home match advantage, which might not help them against in from Manchester United.

Reading lost to Aston Villa away on last Saturday in their last league match. Following the 1-3 defeat, Reading has suffered another defeat, but this time in FA Cup, against Tottenham Hotspur. However, Reading manager has backed his side saying that his players were focused on the match.

Telegraph reported:

However, Reading manager Steve Coppell, was at pains to argue against that theory, insisting strongly that his side were indeed focused on the contest. "It was never our intention to have a cop-out," he said. "We wanted to go through. The prospect of playing Man United away was daunting but, I would say, a privilege. The chance to play in front of 70,000 is an experience that makes the hairs on the back of the neck tingle. I wanted us to get through desperately."

Manchester Untied, as I mentioned earlier, is now in dominating form with some inspirational performances from Portuguese midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo, English striker Wayne Rooney and Argentine striker Carlos Tévez. Ronaldo recorded his first hat trick of the season in Manchester Untied’s 6-0 triumph last week, amassing 22 goals this season including 16 league goals. So, he is the leading goal scorer of premier league this season. Carlos Tevez has 10 league goals to his credit, despite missing may matches this season with injury.

Winger Ronaldo has been in imperious form so far this season. He has become a constant threat to the opposition defense. After the hat trick against Newcastle United, Cristiano Ronaldo has urged manager Sir Alex Ferguson not to rest him now. Actually, he was given four or five days of rest at the same time of last season. That is why, he asked Ferguson for not giving him rest at this moment. So, it seems the midfielder’s thrust for goal has not come down.

Goal.com reported:

"This time last season the boss gave me a break for four or five days," recalled Ronaldo, speaking to the Daily Mirror.

"But people who know me will know that all I want to do is play. I just want to play, score goals, make assists and do good things for the team.

"I'm enjoying staying here in Manchester. There isn't much sun at the moment, but it's not a problem. The weather is not the most important thing.

It is not yet confirmed if Ferguson gives the star any break this season, but it is also clear that Ronaldo will travel to Madejski Stadium on next Saturday. So, Reading defender can not be relaxed at this moment. They now need to think about their strategy how to stop the play maker. Reading must try their best to capitalize on their home advantage against the league leader.

I think, Manchester Untied has better chance in the match. The way, they are approaching to defend their title, it is obvious that Reading is going to face some strong challenges from Manchester Untied. However, if Reading can have the home advantage counted, then Reading can achieve at least a point from the match.
