Liverpool is Best in Premier League: Hull City Manager Phil Brown

(This entry was originally published in this blog December 2008 and it is based on the information of that time.)

Hull City has already earned the tag of giant killer in premier league this season. The newly promoted club defeated a number of big clubs including Arsenal in their premier league campaign so far and currently secures the 6th place with 26 points from 16 matches. No doubt, Hull City manager Phil Brown is now very much delighted with the performances of his boys. Ahead of Hull City’s upcoming trip to Liverpool, Phil Brown, recently said that Liverpool is the best side in English premier league at this moment as it is shown in the league table. Liverpool is leading the league table with 37 points from 16 matches.

Goal.com reported:

“They are a great side, no doubt about it,” Brown was quoted as saying by Liverpool’s official website.
“To be so many points ahead of Manchester United and be ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal is a great achievement at this stage of the season.

“They have to be the best team in England at this moment in time, the league table doesn’t lie.

Liverpool’s performance was not very impressive in their last premier league fixture when they visited Blackburn Rovers, but still was capable of pulling off three points by a 3-1 victory. That is what, Brown thinks, is the sign of a very good side. Despite admitting Liverpool’s excellent form of recent, Hull boss did not forget to say that he was going to feature an attacking line up against Liverpool.

Hull City captain George Boateng Criticizes Wayne Rooney for Showing Hot Temper

Manchester United defeated Hull City 4-3 on Saturday, but was pushed all the way by the newly promoted side. At one stage, Hull City was trialing by 4-1, but they made it 4-3 gradually. Hull City created huge pressure on Manchester United looking for an equalizer in the match. Hull City captain George Boateng has recently criticized Wayne Rooney for showing his hot temper when things were not coming in his way. However, George Boateng has admitted that Rooney is an outstanding player and his ill temper is because he plays from the heart. He thinks, Rooney has the guile to win and that is why, he seems to be so hot-headed on the field.

Telegraph reported:

Referring to Rooney's reaction when he was booked on Saturday, Boateng said: "The referee didn't know who should have possession so I said 'give it to United to give it back to our keeper'. But Rooney didn't want that. He wanted to compete for it. I said 'fine, let's do it,' then he lost it a bit.

"He's an outstanding player but he gets frustrated when things aren't going right. You can't take that out of him because it's part of what makes him so determined to win. He's got fire."

His outburst at the fourth match official could have earned him a red card too in the match against Hull City. However, Rooney was lucky enough that he was not sent off in the match. There is no doubt, Wayne Rooney has all the potential, ability, skill and guile to become one the greatest ever player of all time in the history of English football. However, he must learn to remain calm and poised on the field because a red card not only takes away two games from his career, but also affect his team- be it England or Manchester United.

Hull City Eyeing on Chelsea Striker Claudio Pizarro

Hull City is looking to make their attacking line up stronger ahead of their first ever premier league season, starting from 16 August 2008. The newly promoted club has kept an eye on Chelsea’s under-performed Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro, whom Chelsea manager Luix Felope Scolari seems to have kept out of his first-team plan. The striker joined Chelsea last season from German club Bayern Munich when Jose Mourinho was in the Chelsea hot seat. Reports out in the media already linked him with a possible move to Real Betis and River Plate, and now Hull City entered into the scene.

Hull City already contacted with Chelsea in this regard, but the new premier league club is seriously considering Claudio Pizarro’s wages of £50,000 a week, which seems to be an amount to be very hard to afford for Hull City. However, they are still interested to talk to the player in this regard and they are now waiting for Chelsea’s reply.
