Apple revenue will surpass IBM and HP in the next two years

Forrester CEO, George Colony, predicted that Apple will have great sales in the next two years eventually surpassing IBM and HP in terms of revenue. He said that the company will earn $200 billion in revenues and “post sales growth” will exceed 50 percent in the next two years fueled by higher demand of the iPad tablet PC.

He also warned that Jobs’ departure will affect the company’s future because after every two years, they would have to come up with new products. Steve Jobs is the final decision maker in Apple. Whatever comes out of the company, he gives the final decision. Such practice is not seen anywhere in the technology industry. Bloomberg reports:

Hewlett-Packard had sales of $126 billion in the year that ended in October and IBM’s revenue was $99.9 billion last year, making them the largest technology companies, respectively, by sales. Apple ranks No. 1 by market capitalization.

In a survey conducted on analysts by Bloomberg it has been revealed that Apple sales would increase by 54 percent to $100.3 billion in the current fiscal year ending in September. Growth would slow down to 18 percent the following year.

Is HP taking too Much Risk with webOS?

We already know that HP CEO had announced that in 2011 the company will ship nearly 100 million devices containing WebOS. If you are thinking that this OS will be shipped only with smartphones and the recently released HP TouchPad tablet PC, then you are wrong. HP is in fact planning to put this OS in every PC it sells meaning desktops, netbooks and notebooks.

It seems that HP is taking too much of a risk. Normally, the company has maintained a healthy relationship with Microsoft in the last few years. Now, if the company puts its WebOS in desktops and laptops then surely Microsoft officials may become sensitive to some extent. After all, Microsoft has not done well in the smartphone and tablet PC sector with its WP7. So, the last thing that Microsoft bosses needs is some kind of competition from WebOS. Of course, as far as I know, HP will also put Windows OS in their products. It will not entirely ditch Windows for Web OS.

Still, I think it is a matter of too much risk for HP and it will create a tension between Microsoft and HP. Secondly, if consumers do not like WebOS in laptops and desktops, then it may have a negative impact on HP’s tablet PC and smartphone sales.

We fill that the best way to minimize the risk is that the WebOS is properly developed and can work smoothly with desktops and laptops.

HP CEO: Cloud Computing is the Future

For the last two years, we have seen several companies announcing that cloud computing would become their main focus. Now, HP CEO Leo Apotheker yesterday said the same thing. He said it during HP Summit 2011.
I was taking a look at his presentation slides and it is clear that in the next one year, HP is going to come out with some products and services related to cloud computing.
HP has one advantage over many of its rivals. The company is good at both hardware and software. It is strong in PC business- desktop and laptop. It is one of the top giants in printer market. HP is also active now in tablet PC market with upcoming tablet device and WebOS platform. So, moving to the cloud can bring benefit for the company.
Of course, moving to the cloud is not that easy. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, IBM all are going for it. HP has to innovate some new technology in this field which is getting crowded.
