(This entry was originally published on Wednesday, January 21st, 2009)

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly tracking Wigan Athletic’s Ecuadorian winger Luis Antonio Valencia. Though it is pretty much clear that neither team is going to make a bid for the winger in January, rumors have it that the premier league giants might launch a bid for the winger in Summer.

Chelsea is currently missing their prominent winger Joe Cole through injury, but they are unlikely to spend to sign a winger in the January transfer window. Manchester United already signed two Serbian young players in the ongoing transfer window and they are not believed to spend any more money in January.

Luis Antonio Valencia is currently playing very well for Wigan Athletic. He joined Wigan Athletic in 2007 permanently after spending one season in the club on loan from Villarreal. Since 2005, Luis Antonio Valencia has been playing in Ecuador national team and was one of the best young players of 2006 World Cup tournament.
