Who will be the Highest Goal Scorer of English Premier League 2007-2008?

England Premier league 2007-2008 season is now in an exciting stage with three clubs still in the title race. Arsenal leads in the point table with 64 points, while defending champion Manchester Untied stands second with three points less than the leaders. Chelsea is also in the race with 55 points, though their championship hope is being faded gradually. So, it will be a bit interesting to see who are going to lift the league title this season. Most of the teams have played 27 matches each so far this season and only 11 rounds are left to decide the winner of the season.

A stiff competition also exists in the race of becoming highest goal scorer of the season. Manchester United midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo scored 21 goals so far this season. He has been in an imperious form this season in all the competitions. Ronaldo is also the leading goal scorer of Champions League ongoing season with five goals to his credit. The Portuguese winger now seems to be the most probable candidate of becoming the highest goal scorer of premier league 2007-2008.

The striker who has made the task very hard for Ronaldo is Emmanuel Adebayor. Arsenal striker has already scored 19 goals so far in premier league and is the closest competitor of Ronaldo for the highest goal scorer title. Adebayor got off to a good start this season, but suffered a goal drought for a number of matches in the mid-season. However, the Togolese has been back to scoring and touched Ronaldo’s 19 goals at the top before Ronaldo scored twice in his side’s 5-1 triumph at Newcastle United to open up a two-goal lead at the top. So, Adebayor now seems to be the biggest threat for Ronaldo in EPL this season.

No doubt, Liverpool has already been out of the title race, but their Spanish forward Fernando Torres is still in the competition with Ronaldo and Adebayor. Torres now stands third in the list with 15 goals so far this season. Though it seems that he is now a bit behind the top two in the highest goal scorers’ chart, Torres has the talent and potential to bounce back and add some more excitement in the competition. Zimbabwean striker Benjani scored 13 goals and currently takes the fourth position in the list of highest goal scorer of the season. He started his season with Portsmouth and spent the first half successfully with the Pompey before moving to Manchester City in the January transfer window. However, I do not see him a threat for Ronaldo and Adebayor for the title of highest scorer of premier league this season.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane scored 12 goals and currently secures the fourth place of the list. Chelsea’s Nicolas Anelka, Blackburn Rovers’s Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tévez from Manchester United have had a successful season in premier league with scoring 11 goals each so far this season. I would not be surprised if any of them could go closure to Ronaldo, Aebayor and Torres. Bulgarian star Dimitar Berbatov scored 10 goals for Tottenham, while Everton’s Nigerian international Yakubu also scored 10 goals to make it to the top ten list of highest goal scorer of English premier league 2007-2008. At last, I would like to say that the competition for becoming the highest goal scorer seems to be very close.
