Should Arsenal sign Thierry Henry on Loan?

Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood has categorically denied any chance of signing Thierry Henry on a loan deal. There were some rumors about it in the last few days. Some fans would surely like to see the player back and I personally think that if Henry is affordable then why not? After all, the young players can learn a lot from him.
There is no doubt that Arsenal has no shortage of talent but the team clearly lacks some experience. Henry has many years of experience behind him and that is why I think that Arsenal should sign him on loan deal.
On the other hand, I do not know about the money that Henry or his current MLS club is seeking from any potential club in Europe for the loan deal.
I think that in the end, when Henry retires from football within 2-3 years, he will perhaps look back and think that he should not have left Arsenal and joined Barcelona. If he stayed at Arsenal until now, he would have made and broken many records for the club. I wonder what he has got by joining Barcelona.

Thierry Henry Scores a Goal in USA

Thierry Henry has made his debut and he has scored a goal in the very first match that he played in MLS for New York Red Bulls. It took only 26 minutes for the former Arsenal legend to open his scoring in MLS. However, New York Red Bulls lost the match to visiting Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
It was a friendly match and it was an enjoyable one for Thierry Henry. Thus, it was not totally an MLS debut but still it was the first match that Henry played in USA.
So, it is a new life for Henry. He is not longer a top footballer in Europe. Even his place at the first eleven of France national team is not guaranteed. In fact, these are the finishing days for the great player.
All the Arsenal fans would hope that he can end his career with a high note.

Manchester City: A Desperate Buyer with Loads of Money

(This entry was originally posted on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009)

When most English clubs are taking guard against the current global credit crunch, Manchester City seems to be walking in the opposite road. Following its Arab takeover last Summer, Manchester City has suddenly become rich and found a bucket of money to sign star players like they did by signing Brazilian striker Robinho in Summer transfer window. However, City’s performances so far this season has not been anywhere close to their expectation. In fact, City is just four points above the relegation zone in premier league point table.

Manchester City has recently missed out on signing AC Milan star Kaka, even after launching a record breaking bid for the striker. Now, Thierry Henry has become City’s latest target to run for. The former Arsenal legend is currently playing for Barcelona, but the striker is yet to find his Arsenal form back at Barcelona. However, City is believed not to rush for Henry this season; Henry is reportedly a target of Manchester City next year. Reports also suggest that Barcelona might value the French international at 10 million pounds ($13.9 million) and City would have to spend 100,000 per week for the player.

There are also reports out in the media that City is also interested in Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and rival Manchester United’s Carlos Tevez who is yet to receive a contract extension from United. Manchester City also tried to sing the players like Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, French international Lassana Diarra, Barcelona’s Yaya Toure, and David Villa and David Silva from Valencia, but ended up without any success.

Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Thierry Henry Failed with Gillette Advertisement?

(This entry was originally published in this blog December 2008 and it is based on the information of that time.)

Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Thierry Henry are perhaps among the top ten icons in world sports today. They are in different sports. Roger Federer is the top tennis player. Thierry Henry is considered to be one of the top ten influential strikers in football and Tiger Woods is the undefeated or unrivaled king of professional men’s golf. There is no doubt that all of them are very successful in their own field and Gillette company wanted to use their success in their advertisement so that they can attract more men to use their Gillette shaving razor.

Telegraph wrote:

The golfer, tennis champion and former Premiership football star lined up for the razor commercial in 2008.

But industry magazine Campaign voted the advert the top turkey of 2008 for its cringe-worthy imagery.

Campaign editor Claire Beale said: “The Gillette ad is an own goal, a double fault and a bunker shot rolled into one.

It seems that this effort from Gillette Company has suffered a blow in England as according to a report of Telegraph, the advertisement has been considered as the worst TV advertisement of the year. So, it is seen that getting sports stars can not guarantee success for companies when carrying out a commercial campaign.
