XOOM and Galaxy Tab buyers get $35 activation fee waived from Verizon Wireless

Is it an act of generosity or just another attempt to sell some Android run tablets while iPad 2 is getting sold in thousands every day? To me, it seems like a marketing gimmick as first of all, the offer is for a limited time only. The people who bought either Motorola Xoom or Samsung Galaxy Tab devices from 1 March 2011 will be entitled to get this offer. So, the new buyers will get it automatically while the people who bought since 1 March 2011 until now will get $35 refund.
Clearly, the aim is to encourage people to buy more Android run tablets. It is a good decision but the price cut should have been some more than $35. Both Motorola and Samsung should consider some price cuts for their tablets at least for next 2-3 months as BlackBerry is going to release its PlayBook in the coming weeks.
