Liverpool 1-2 Blackpool: Another Humiliation for the Merseysiders

Liverpool suffered another humiliating defeat in the Premier League on Sunday- this time at the hands of newcomer Blackpool. The 2-1 loss at home would now only keep pressure mounting on manager Roy Hodgson.

Anfield fans were so fed up with the performance of the home side that they booed the Liverpool players, while Blackpool fans enjoyed every bit of the action.

With this defeat, Liverpool remained at the 18th place with just 6 points from 7 games, while the Seasiders moved to the 9th position with 10 points from the same number of matches.

The most worrying factor for the Reds boss is that his players were totally outperformed by the newcomers. Moreover, Fernando Torres’ injury would compound to Hodgson’s pressure.

Just 8 minutes into the second half, Kyrgiakos scored for the Reds only to make the scoreline 2-1. Gerrard’s free-kick met Kyrgiakos in the box and the Greek’s powerful header easily beat Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina.

Earlier in the first half, Blackpool scored twice through Charlie Adam and Luke Varney. In the 29th minute, Adam powered in a penalty awarded to the visiting side as Glen Johnson brought Varney down inside the box.

Then in the injury time of the first half, Blackpool doubled the lead when Varney, after receiving a pass from Gary Taylor-Fletcher, powered in a shot from the 12 yards.

Liverpool’s only scorer Kyrgiakos came very close to an equalizer in injury time but, Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks ensured full points for his team.

Keepers on both sides made some good saves throughout the match; otherwise the score could have been different.

Another bad news for Liverpool is that star striker Fernando Torres picked up an injury and was replaced by David Ngog just 10 minutes after the kick off. The extent of his injury would soon be realized.
