Chelsea Wins 2-0 against Arsenal

Chelsea has strengthened their lead at the top of the premier league table with a confidence-booster 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea went into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat away at Manchester City last week, but the Blues did everything to stave off the Arsenal challenge. Both sides had a number of scoring opportunities and the scoreline could have been rich, had both sides not missed most of those chances.

Chelsea went ahead in the 39th minute when Drogba scored a superb goal. Ashley Cole provided a pin-point cross for the Ivorian who sent the ball past Łukasz Fabiański into the goal with excellent control.

However, it was Arsenal who started off better than the home side with Chamakh and Koscielny threatening in the opening minutes. Chelsea gradually got into their best and started creating opportunities through excellent display of passing and movement. The likes of Drogba, Malouda, Essien and Essien threaten Arsenal on a number of occasions.

Chelsea looked more aggressive in the second half and came very close to scoring on a number of times. On the other hand, Arshavin, Wilshere, Nasri, Diaby and Chamakh were looking for an equalizer.

Chelsea got the second goal through a superb striker by Alex in the 85th minute. Towards the end, Chelsea had at least couple of more scoring chances, but the scoreline remained same when the final whistle was blown.

With this defeat Arsenal has been dropped to the fifth place with 11 points from 7 games, while Chelsea increased their lead at the top taking their point tally to 18.
