Sol Campbell Could Stay at Arsenal

Reports out in the media suggest that Sol Campbell could finally put pen on paper to stay with Arsenal for one more season. Though he is looking for a two-year deal, it is pretty much clear manager Arsene Wenger would only offer him a one-year deal.

Campbell joined the Gunners last January for the second time on a short deal which expired recently and he has now become a free agent. Celtic was ready to hand him a two-year contract, but now it looks Campbell is not interested to move to Scotland just few months after his marriage.

Sol Campbell joined the then League Two club Notts County at the start of the last season, but failed to continue due to mutual problems with the club officials. Then he moved to Arsenal in January.

Campbell’s first stint with Arsenal was highly successful as he won two Premier League, 3 FA Cup and 2 Community Shield titles with the Gunners. After coming through Tottenham Hotspur youth side, Sol Campbell’s nine-year stint with Arsenal’s North London rivals was also very successful. Though he won only one League Cup title with the Spurs, he made 255 league appearances with them.

Arsenal fans would also welcome him, if Sol Campbell decides to stay because his performance was highly impressive during the second half of the last season. At 35, his movement may not be as quick as it was in his youth, but his excellent work rate and huge experience would make him a quality option for Wenger.
