Arsenal Lining up a £10m Bid for Per Mertesacker

Arsenal may have already signed center back Laurent Koscielny, but it is pretty much clear that manager Arsene Wenger is still in the lookout for one or two more central defenders to bolster his back line.

Now, reports out in the media suggest that Wenger is now considering a £10 million official bid for Werder Bremen center back Per Mertesacker who has had a successful World Cup campaign with Germany in South Africa.

Wenger revealed his desire to secure Mertesacker’s service earlier too, but did not make any bid for the player. Mertesacker is a highly skilled player whose strong physical presence could boost up any defense. Thanks to his 6 feet 6 inches height, Mertesacker has aerial advantage too.

The most important thing is that Mertesacker can add experience to Wenger’s squad. Though he is 25 now, he has already represented Germany in 69 matches. With William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre leaving, Per Mertesacker could be a very good addition to the Arsenal squad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal is also tracking Everton defender Phil Jagielka, but his valuation seems pretty much high for low-spending Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal is also looking for quality goalkeeper at the moment and Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer is now favorite to join the Gunners. Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovic is also in the Arsenal target list.
