Chelsea Transfer News and Rumors for January 2010 Window

Chelsea is currently leading the English premier league point table with 45 points from 20 games. The West London club dominated most of the first half of the season, except some recent setbacks which have been cause of concern for manager Carlo Ancelotti. Moreover, Chelsea is going to miss some of its key players like Michael Essien in January due to African Cup of Nations 2010.

Naturally, the January transfer window is very important for the West London club. Most importantly, Chelsea is now facing a transfer ban which would not allow Chelsea to buy any new player for two transfer windows. So, it is understandable that Chelsea would like to ensure that they have enough resources for the next season because the final verdict on their transfer ban could go either way round. That is why, it is believed that Chelsea would splash big amount in January in its attempt to land some proven performers. In this article, you can get regular updates of transfer rumors and deals involving Chelsea.

6 January
England striker Emile Heskey has been linked with a move to Chelsea in January transfer window with the West London club ready to spend £4m for the Aston Villa striker. Looking for more first team football, Heskey could be tempted to join the Blues knowing that Chelsea’s Ivorian striker Didier Drogba will be out with international duty in January. Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is also keen to buy the service of Denmark international Simon Kjaer who has already attracted several European clubs.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has not reportedly given up on Bayern Munich winger Franck RibĂ©ry. Recently, the France international declined to extend his current contract with the German club, and thus, providing enough ground for a rumor that Chelsea is believed to be planning a huge ₤45M bid for him. However, it is still a rumor as nothing from the two clubs and the player agent has been said on this issue. Another rumor, though small, surfaced in the media, suggests a Chelsea internet in Sampdoria’s Italian striker Giampaolo Pazzini who has been valuated at £22m by the Italian club. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are also tracking the Italy international.

You perhaps already know that Chelsea last month announced a £55million budget for winter transfer window in order to secure the service of Sergio Aguero and Jerko Leko. In fact, Aguero has been the prime Chelsea target over the last few months, but now it seems that Atletico Madrid’s Argentine striker Sergio Aguero would not join the Blues in January as he has recently reaffirmed his commitment for the Spanish club.

Chelsea manager is also tracking Everton’s young defensive midfielder Jack Rodwell in order to strengthen the midfield in the absence of Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel as both of them will be out on international duty in January during African Cup of Nations 2010. Considering the transfer ban, Chelsea could buy Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson on a deal that would keep the player at his current club till the end of the season.

8 January 2010
Today, Chelsea did not sign any new player but their midfielder Tom Taiwo joined Carlisle United.
Carlo Ancelotti has denied reports that he was interested about Sampdoria’s Giampaolo Pazzini. He said, "We stay with the same squad. I have said that a lot of times. We have a good squad and have a very good striker in Daniel Sturridge. We don't need to have another new player."
On the other hand, Vincenzo Iaquinta of Juventus said that he was not eager to leave Juventus and go to Chelsea.
Vincenzo Iaquinta said, "I'm flattered by market rumours, but I'm interested only in Juventus. I feel good here and I don't want to leave. I've been sorry to have not been able to help the team in this period of difficulty, but now I'm ready to give my help."
There is no update about Sergio Aguero of Atletico Madrid
