New Zealand Captain Daniel Vettori Wants to Reach Compaq Cup 2009 Final

After leading New Zealand to whitewash host Sri Lanka in the two-match twenty20 series, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has now set his new target of guiding his team to reach the final of the upcoming Compaq Cup tri-nation tournament which involves Sri Lanka and India.

New Zealand had a devastating performance in the test series. That is why, Vettori thinks that his players would get lots of confidence from the back-to-back wins in the twenty20 series.

Cricket Next reported:

"The back-to-back wins in the Twenty20 matches against Sri Lanka was an indication of things to come. The guys will take a lot of confidence from that. I think everyone out there put up a performance at some stage and they'll be happy with that," Vettori has been quoted as saying in the Sri Lankan press on Sunday.

The left hand spinner now wants his teammates to take the twenty20 success into ODI tournament. He believes that reaching the tournament final would be a ‘stepping stone’ for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, starting from 22 September 2009.
