English Opener Joe Denly Suffered Knee Injury in Practice ahead of 1st ODI against Australia

Joe Denly is now uncertain for England’s first ODI against Australia on Friday. The opener suffered a knee injury during a practice session at the Oval. The batsman is due to undergo a scan on his injured knee today and the scan report would decide if he is fit enough to participate in the first of the seven-match ODI series against Australia.

Joe Denly got his ODI debut for England last week against Ireland and celebrated the occasion with a well-played half century that made the winning ground for the English side. It is really bad news for England because he was almost certain to open for England alongside Captain Andrew Strauss in the first ODI. However, Strauss himself also admitted that his participation is now uncertain after the knee injury. It seems if Denly can not become fit for the first game, Ravi Bopara, who has been in bad form recently, would open for England in the first ODI.
