Chelsea Handed Ashley Cole New Four Year Contract

Ashley Cole has been given a four-year contract extension by Chelsea and thus the player is now committed for the Blues till 2013. I am not surprised at this move by Chelsea because the England international was impressive throughout the last season. Cole moved to Stamford Bridge in 2006 from Arsenal when Jose Mourinho was the manager of the West London club. Initially, he struggled to clinch a regular place in the Chelsea squad, but since the arrival of Scolari as Chelsea manager, Cole was given more space and opportunity to prove his talent and skill. The left back capitalized the chance and clinched a regular place at the Blues squad.

I think, it has been a smart move by Chelsea because Cole is now 28 and if he can hold on to his current form, he could contribute a lot to Chelsea’s success in the years to come. So, there is every possibility Chelsea can get the some of the best performances of Ashley Cole.

I think, Chelsea has brought a change to transfer market this season. They did not go for any big star in the summer transfer window; rather they were more concerned about the existing squad. In fact, Chelsea handed new contract to five of their current polayers including Captain John Terry, Didier Drogba, John Mikel Obi and Florent Malouda. I really appreciate Chelsea’s new approach towards playing signing during this time of credit crunch. More than this, Chelsea is now under huge debt.
