Chelsea Facing Manchester City on Sunday in Premier League

(This entry was originally published on Sunday, March 15th, 2009)

Chelsea is going to face Manchester City at home today (15 March 2009) in an important premier league clash. The blues have been in a winning streak of 7 games since the arrival of new manager Guus Hiddink. Chelsea dropped down to the third place last night when Liverpool routed Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford. So, Chelsea must win today’s showdown against Manchester City if they are to retain the second spot in the league table.

Manchester City’s performance has not yet reflected its image as a rich club since its Arab takeover last summer. They are currently at the seventh place in the league table and the high-profile signings like Robinho, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Wayne Bridge could not yet bring out as much success as expected by the fans. Mark Hughe boys, however, have been pretty much consistent over the last few weeks and that is why, it is expected that City will go into the Stamford Bridge tie full of confidence.

Chelsea’s revitalized form seems to be an ultimate threat for the visitors, but Chelsea knows it very well that City has quality players like Robinho who can steal the show single-handedly. So, Hiddink boys may not take any risk against Manchester City, knowing the fact that a defeat or draw would leave them out of the title race. I think, this will be a closely fought affair in which Chelsea seems to be slightly favorite.
