(This entry was originally published in this blog December 2008 and it is based on the information of that time.)

In the recently finished Alfred Dunhill championship at Leopard Creek in South Africa on December 14, 2008, Richard Sterne finished at the the top place. The 27 year old South African golfer was one shot ahead of England’s Robert Rock and Sweden’s Johan Edfors. In the fourth round, Sterned scored 3 under par. He scored three consecutive birdies on the back nine. His total score was 17-under-par 271. This victory ensured Sterne’s Sterne’s place in the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit title.

Tension became high when Sterned reached the par-5 18th hole. He landed in the rough but he safely finished the hole on par. The 18th hole is the most difficult one in the course. In 2007, Ernie Els lost the tournament to John Bickerton after he took eight strokes to finish the 18th hole.

Thomas Aiken, another South African golfer, who was in the top position in Round-3 with a record score of 61, scored 3 over par in the final round and ended up in the fourth position. Aiken tied with Spain’s Rafael Cabrera Bello who was 15 under par. American golfer Len Mattiace, who scored 3 over par in the third round, scored 5 over par in the fourth round and tied for the 14th position. Robert Rock tied with Johan Edfors for the second position. In the last two years, Robert Rock finished in 17th and 14th. He was very happy with his performance in the tournament.
