Pádraig Harrington, Lorena Ochoa and Jay Hass are GWAA’s Player of the Year 2008

Golf Writers’ Association of America (GWAA) named Pádraig Harrington, Lorena Ochoa and Jay Hass, 2008 Player of the Year. The three players will be honored in April 8, 2009 in Augusta, Georgia.

Pádraig Harrington, received 184 votes against Tiger Woods’ 58 votes and Vijay Singh’s five votes. Ochoa received 232 votes agaist Paula Creamer’s 13 and Yani Tseng’s three votes. Haas won the Senior Player of the Year title with 115 votes agaist Bernhard Langer’s 79 votes and Eduardo Romero’s 50 votes.

Pádraig Harrington, the 37 year old Irish golfer, successfully defended his British Open title in July and then won the US PGA championship in August. He is the first European to win two successive major tournaments in the same year and fifth player in the last two decades to win two major tournaments in one year. He acquired eighth position on the PGA Tour money list.

Mexican female golfer, 27 year old Lorena Ochoa, finished two great seasons participating in twenty two LPGA events including the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She won seven LPGA tours. Kraft Nabisco Championship is her second consecutive major. This is her third consecutive year leading the LPGA scoreboard and PGA Tour money list with an earning of $2.763 million. American female golfer, Paula Creamer, is in the second position in the LPGA money list with an earning of $1.823 million.

Jay Dean Haas, the 55 year old American professional golfer, is the first player to win GWAA’s Player of the Year Award for three consecutive years. He won two years in a row in 1997 and 1998. In 2008, Haas won Senior PGA Championship and The Principal Charity Classic. He is in the second position on the PGA Tour Money List.
