Ashok Dinda and Wriddhiman Saha Handed D Grade Contract by BCCI

(This entry was originally published in this blog December 2008 and it is based on the information of that time.)

BCCI announced new contract incorporating 37 players in four grades. Two cricketers from Bengal were handed central contract for the first time. Fast bowler Ashok Dinda and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha both are playing very well for Bengal in the ongoing series. However, a Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary was dropped from the new contract.

Rahul Dravid is still in Grade A, despite his poor form. Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh and V.V.S. Laxman got promotion to Grade A because of their recent good form.

Telegraphindia reported:

Dinda and Saha will get richer by Rs 15 lakh each. The BCCI named 14 players in Grade D. Dinda, who took five wickets for Bengal against Vidarbha on Monday in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match, was rewarded for his consistent performance in the ongoing domestic season.

The quartet of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh and V.V.S. Laxman were promoted to Grade A.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik was dropped to Grade D from his previous Grade B place.

It is really very good news for Bengal team that they have two cricketers who have central contract. Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh and V.V.S. Laxman are in good form and I am not surprised by their promotion in the central contract.
