A Tremendous Start for South Africa in World Twenty20

South Africa got off to an excellent in twenty20 world cup 2009 as they thrashed Scotland by 130 runs on Sunday. Winning the toss, Scotland decided to bowl first, but South Africa piled on 211 runs losing 5 wickets. All of their top-order batsmen got significant amount of runs. AB de Villiers played a fiery innings of unbeaten 79 off just 34, hitting six 6s and five 4s. However, two openers Graeme Smith and Kallis brought a good start as they put on 87 runs on the board within 9.3 overs. Smith scored 38 from 29 balls, while Kallis stopped just two runs shy of his half century. In the end, Albie Morkel played an excellent innings of 24 runs off 11 balls.



Drummond and Haq picked up 2 wickets each for Scotland. Chasing such a huge total, Scotland just got all out for 81 runs with 26 balls left at hand. Steyn, Botha, Roelof van der Merwe and Morkel all picked up 2 wickets each for South Africa. AB de Villiers was awarded the man of the match award. With this victory, South Africa has almost confirmed their progress to the Super Eight.
