India Clinched the Test Series 1-0 against New Zealand

India clinched their first test series win in New Zealand today as the third and the final test at Basin Reserve, Wellington ended in a mere draw thanks to rain. India went very close to make it 2-0 in the series as Indian bowlers picked up 8 wickets of New Zealand second innings with the hosts were struggling at 281 for 8 when rain interrupted in the match that finally led to a draw. New Zealand resumed their day at their overnight score of 167 for 4 with Taylor batting on 69 and Franklin on 26 and the two started off very well in the morning today, but all the resistance of home sides broke down when Taylor got out upon completion of his excellent century.

Taylor played a brilliant innings of 107 before being bowled out off Harbhajan Singh. Franklin also got out on 49, and McCullum failed to make any impression being dismissed off Tendulkar for 6. After the fall of Southee, Vettori and O’Brien were trying to rebuild their innings, but the pressure was on New Zealand which was later on eased by the rain. Vettori and O’Brien were batting on 15 and 19 respectively. Harbhajan Singh picked up 4 wickets, while Zaheer Khan and Tendulkar got 2 wickets each for India.

With this draw, India has won the test series by 1-0 margin thanks to their victory in the first test. Gautam Gambhir was awarded the man of the match award for his excellent performance in the third test.
