Liverpool Defeated Wigan Athletic 3-2 at Home

Liverpool continues to prove their mental strength in premier league. After the famous come-from-back victory away at Manchester City two weeks past, Liverpool has pulled off another comeback win in premier league. This time the victim is Wigan Athletic who were leading 2-1 even just 11 minutes off the final time. However, goals from Albert Riera and Dirk Kuyt in the last 11 minutes ensured another spectacular victory for the All reds. With this 3-2 victory, Liverpool continues going hand in hand with Chelsea who are atop the league table only on superior goal difference. This has been the fourth game Liverpool won after coming from back.

Liverpool suffered the first goal due to a terrible mistake by Daniel Agger in the 29th minute of the match. Agger lost possession to Wigan’s Amr Zaki who successfully sent the ball past Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina into the goal. However, Liverpool got the equalizer thanks to Kuyt who scored after receiving a pass from Agger. However, the Anfield fans got disappointed when Amr Zaki once again put Wigan ahead in the match just before the half time. Zaki met Antonio Valencia cross with an excellent touch, slotting the ball past Rerina into the goal.

Wigan turned a 10-men team after Valencia received second yellow card for a heavy tackle on Xabi Alonso in the 75th minute. Albert Riera leveled the score 2-2 thanks to a right-footed shot with 10 minutes off the time. Dirk Kuyt scored the winning goal for Liverpool, connecting a Jermaine Pennant cross with an excellent volley that ensured a victory for the home team.
