Robin van Persie Backs Arsene Wenger’s Small Spending Strategy

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has expressed that he support the philosophy of Wenger on this regard. The Dutchman admits that he was surprised when Manchester City signed Robinho from Real Madrid for a British record transfer fee on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. Though Chelsea had been tracking Robinho throughout the summer and was in contact with Madrid, Manchester City’s Arab owners were desperate to sign star players with buckets of money. Following the change in ownership at Manchester City, the Eastlands club suddenly emerged as a big player in transfer market and they successfully recruited Robinho under the noses of Chelsea.

However, Robin van Persie thinks that only big signing can not bring success unless a club has a plan and philosophy. The Dutch striker supports his Arsenal boss on this regard saying that Wenger has the principle as well as philosophy of his own. Van Persie has also added that Arsene Wenger pays £10m only if the player worth £10m. He admits that it is very difficult to hold on that philosophy in the over inflated market, but Wenger does it.

Arsene Wenger was assured of £30m to spend for one player during summer transfer window, but the French manager did not spend even a part of that amount in summer, even though he tried his best to negotiate with a number of players. Robin van Persie insists on achieving mental strength and avoiding injuries- the two things that van Persie considers most important to make difference.
