Liverpool Clinched First Premier League Victory over Manchester United in Seven Years

Liverpool, at last, has come out of their bad-patch against premier league rivals Manchester United today thanks to a 2-1 home victory that took Liverpool to the first place in league table with 10 points from 4 matches. Thanks to a winner from Ryan Babel 13 minutes from time, Liverpool pulled off the morale-booster victory at Anfield, coming from a goal down in the match.

In many ways, Liverpool would consider the victory more than just a three-point generator. The all reds secured a victory against the Europe’s best club, even without needing any significant contribution from their two most important players: Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. Torres was sidelined with injury during the match, while Gerrard came on as a substitute in the second half.

Another thing is that, Liverpool looked very confident throughout the match, despite suffering a third minute goal by Carlos Tevez. Liverpool got the equalizer thanks to an own goal from Wes Brown in the 27th minute of the match. Liverpool was full of confidence and looked more united in the match than their opposition. Babel’s 77-minute striker ensured the home side three points from the match. With this defeat, Manchester United is left with four points from three matches.

Liverpool has something more to relish for in the match and that is the impressive performance of new signing Alberto Riera who was on his debut for Liverpool. Rafael Benitez spent £8m for the winger to sign in the summer transfer window and now it seems that Alberto Riera could be an effective player for Liverpool.
