Manchester United Interested to Appoint Paulo Bento as the New Assistant of Ferguson

Manchester United is planning to bring Sporting Lisbon coach Paulo Bento at Old Trafford as the new assistant of manager Sir Alex Ferguson. With the departure of former assistant Carlos Queiroz, who recently joined Portugal national team as its new coach, the post of assistant coach at Manchester United is still vacant. It is believed that Queiroz also highly recommended Bento for the job. However, there could be another reason for what Manchester United is interested to make a deal with Paulo Bento, who is currently managing Sporting Lisbon and still has a year left on his existing deal.

The possible reason could be that the presence of Paulo Bento might help Manchester to persuade Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at the club for at least another season. Here, it should be notated that Paulo Bento is the friend and former team mater of Cristiano Ronaldo at Sporting Lisbon. You already know that Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford is still uncertain with a possible link with Real Madrid.

Paulo Bento retired from professional football just four years back in 2004 while playing for Sporting Lisbon and immediately after his retirement he started his coaching career with Sporting Lisbon junior side. A year later in 2005, he emerged as the coach of senior team at Sporting Lisbon. Paulo Bento is considered as one of the most potential young coach in Portugal.
