Arsenal Looking to Sign Midfielder Xabi Alonso from Liverpool

Arsenal has recently revealed their interest to sign Liverpool’s Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso, who was earlier been linked with a possible move to Italian club Juventus. However, Juventus put an end to their bid for Alonso upon signing Sevilla's Christian Poulsen. So, the field seems to be open for Arsenal as there is no other viable competitor runner for the midfielder.

With losing midfielders Mathieu Flamini and Alexander Hleb to AC Milan and Barcelona respectively, and Gilberto Silva very close to sign on contract with Greek club Panathinaikos, Arsenal has been left short of midfielders in the squad ahead of the next season. So, it is pretty sure that Arsenal will definitely enter the market looking for one or two replacement in the midfield.

Liverpool demands £14 million for Alonso and according to Inaki Ibanez, agent of Xabi Alonso, Arsenal is ready to pay the amount to sign Alonso. Once the deal is done, it is expected that it would only help Liverpool financially to make a successful bid for Aston Villa’s captain Gareth Barry who has been tagged with £18 million by his current club.
