Euro 2008: Czech Republic and Turkey Facing Each Other in an Important Group A Match

Czech Republic and Turkey will take on each other tonight (15 June 2008) in a group deciding match at Stade de Genève, Geneva. The match is very important for both the sides. With Portugal already through the quarter final of Euro 2008, this match has become a ‘do or die’ match for both Czech Republic and Turkey. The winner of the match will progress to the second round of Euro 2008. Both sides have 3 points to their credit so far and another victory would hand them a place in the last eight of Euro 2008. Both Czech Republic and Turkey recorded their victories against co-hosts Switzerland, but lost to Portugal. Czech Republic vs Turkey match would kick off from 19:45 BST. However, if the match ended in a draw then for the first time in Euro tournament a shoot out would decide the winner of the math.

Czech Republic might bring on two strikers: Milan Baros and Jan Koll- in a 4-4-2 combination. Chelsea keeper Petr Czech is confident that his side would be bale to reach the quarter final of the tournament. On the other hand, Turkish midfielder Hamit Altintop indicated Turkey’s self belief that helped them win over Switzerland coming back from 0-1 down at the half time in the previous match. However, head to head record between the two sides puts Czech Republic ahead with 10 victories out of their 14 meetings, while Turkey could manage to win only one match, but the two teams never played against each other in a Euro tournament.

Well, it seems that both teams will for sure give their best to win the match to reach the last eight of Euro 2008. So, I think, both teams will go for attack from the beginning, knowing that there is no alternative of winning the match to progress to the next round. That indicates an exciting match at Geneva tonight.
What do you think about the match?
