Brazil vs Argentina Live Score and Updates: 2010 World Cup Qualification

Brazil and Argentina, two traditional arch-rivals of football, are going to face each other in a high profile match of 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification on 18 June 2008. The match will take place at the Estadio Mineirao stadium, Belo Horizonte in Brazil. When the football world is already excited with the on-going Euro 2008 tournament, Brazil vs Argentina match comes as an add-on for the football fans around the world. It is perhaps the most exciting football rivalry in terms of worldwide popularity. So, it is really something special for the football loving fans across the world.

Match: Brazil vs Argentina, 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualification, South American Region

Date: 18 June 2008

Live on TV: Sky Sports 1 TV Channel, Jump TV (on Demand)

Brazil and Argentina are the two football powerhouse of the football world with winning seven world cup titles between them. These two South American football powers have a huge fan following across the world. I may be wrong, but I guess, in terms of world wide popularity, Brazil and Argentina are the top two most popular soccer teams across the world.

Brazil will have home advantage in the game as the match is going to take place in Brazil. However, Brazil’s performance in the qualification has not been good so far. They have lost their last two matches to Paraguay and Venezuela. With the defeat to Paraguay, Brazil now stands in the fifth place in the standing of 2010 World Cup Qualification after playing five matches so far. You know that only four teams could directly reach the 2010 World Cup Final from South American region, while the fifth-placed team will have to face in a two-leg play off against a team from CONCACAF region. Brazil currently has 8 points from five matches with two victories, two draws and a defeat.

Argentina, on the other hand, is placed second in the standing with 10 points. However, they have not been flawless in the competition as the two-time world champions were beaten by Columbia in the tournament. Argentina won three matches, drew one and lost the other out of their five outings in the world cup qualification. However, the pressure is now on Brazil as they are on the danger zone of being eliminated. It is true that there is a long way to go in 2010 World Cup Qualification as more than half of the tournament is still left.

Brazil vs Argentina: Head to Head and Recent Form

The two arch rivals faced each other on 12 occasions in which Brazil won nine times and Argentina won twice while the other match ended in a draw. Now, if you go through the recent form of the two sides, you can get to see that neither side has flawless performance in the recent past. With two back to back defeats in the previous two matches, Brazil won four out of their last seven matches in all tournaments along with a match ended in a draw. Argentina, on the other hand, has better form of recent with four victories, two draws and a defeat out of their last seven matches in all tournaments.

The last time Brazil and Argentina faced each other was in Copa America about a year ago where Brazil defeated their rivals 3-0 in style. So, the current under-performed Brazil team can take inspiration from that victory.

Brazil vs Argentina: Without Kaka

Brazilian coach Dunga did not include Kaka in the 23-man squad for the match against Argentina. The AC Milan midfielder has not been at his best at this moment, but he is disheartened with this decision. However, Kaka admitted that the decision had come from Brazil’s team doctor.

Sportsya reported:

"Begin ruled out of Brazil, saddened me. I was surprised by the way that happened. There is no reason why to blame the club (AC Milan). It was Brazil’s doctor who made the decision," Kaka said, and repeated he is ready to be back.

Tickets of Brazil vs Argentina Match Sold out

All the tickets of this important match were sold out quickly after the tickets were offered for sale on Tuesday morning in five stores at Belo Horizonte. Within few minutes after 5,000 tickets were offered on the internet, all the tickets were sold out. So, you can understand that to what extent football fans are exciting over this match.

A 10-man Brazil lost to Paraguay 2-0 last Sunday in the world cup qualification. The Uruguay recorded a 6-0 victory over Peru two days later leaving Brazil in the fifth place. However, Uruguay played a match more and Brazil could get back their fourth place with a victory over Argentina at home. A victory would be a confidence booster for Brazil as they have lost their last two matches including their defeat to Venezuela in a friendly match earlier this month.

Brazilian Coach Dunga Upbeat ahead of Argentina Clash

Dunga is confident that his side will recover their form against Argentina and play the football that they used to play, besides admitting that their performance against Paraguay was not good. However, he also thinks that Brazilian side used to cope up with criticism. Brazilian players already proved their quality, temperament and personality which make the Brazilian coach hopeful about the match.

Goal.com reported:

"These players have already proved their temperament, their quality, their personality," he is quoted sa saying by Football 365.

"They are used to dealing with criticism. They have already brought joy to supporters and they want to do it again.

"We didn't play well against Paraguay, but we'll do much better against Argentina."

"Sometimes, changing attitude is better than changing starters," he continued. "I will talk to the players, analyse, but this isn't a match that will change the way we play.

"We'll try to recover our form against Argentina and try to play the same football we used to play."

Brazil might bring two changes in the starting line up that played against Paraguay. Manchester United midfielder Anderson and Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista are expected to replace Josue and Diego in the starting line up against Argentina.

Argentina Facing Injury Problems

Argentina is worried about the injury problems of two midfielders: Javier Mascherano and Juan Sebastian Veron, who are doubtful for the match. Moreover, Martin Demichelis has been ruled out of the match due to his suspension he received during the match against Ecuador. Argentina drew 1-1 with Ecuador in their previous match in the world cup qualification. It is true that Argentina’s recent form is better than that of Brazil. However, it is also true that Brazil picked up big margin victories in their previous three meetings with Argentina. So, Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme thinks that the pressure is also on Argentina.

Sky Sports reported:

"We have the same pressure as Brazil," said midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme. "It's a very important match for both sides.

"But it's not important how the teams got here. What really matters is that we play well and do enough to get the win."

Whenever Brazil and Argentina face each other, it becomes more than impossible to pick up a favorite team for the match. Statistics, recent form and the strength on pen and paper have nothing to do with a Brazil vs Argentina match. So, I am just expecting a mindblowing match at the Estadio Mineirao stadium, Belo Horizonte in Brazil.

Who do you think is going to win this match?
