Players to Miss French Open 2008

French tennis player Sebastien Grosjean has recently announced that he is not going to take part in French Open 2008, as he has not recovered from his shoulder injury and his doctor has not allowed him to take part in the competition. So, the Frenchman is now looking at the next grand slam tournaments of the year.

Sebastien Grosjean is not the first player to pull out of French Open 2008 due to personal and injury problems. In men’s singles, American star Andy Roddick pulled out of the tournament due to suffering from a shoulder injury. He has been replaced by Guillermo Coria in the main draw.

In women’s singles, there are few big players who would not be able to take part in the tournament. To begin with, world no. 21 Tatiana Golovin, from France, will not take part in the tournament as she recently underwent a surgery in order to remove a cyst from her abdomen and she is recovering from the operation. The same thing goes to 32-ranked Sania Mirza, who withdrew herself due to an injury to her right wrist where she had a surgery recently. However, Sania Mirza yet to recover from the injury and becomes match fit. If there are not enough then add another name, Lindsay Davenport, former world no. 1 from US. Lindsay Davenport is currently ranked 26 and she came back to WTA tour last September after a 11-month absence due to giving birth her child. The American star withdrew herself from French Open 2008 on personal ground.

Last but not the least, tennis fans will also miss Belgian tennis star Justine Henin, who was the winner of French Open for the last three years in a row, as she announced her unexpected retirement from WTA tour on 14 May. Justine Henin is still 25 and there are many who got shocked at her early retirement from tennis court.

So, you can see that there are few stars who are going to miss French Open 2008 tournament. However, if you think that because of their absence, French Open 2008 is going to be colorless, I think, you are making a mistake because still, there are enough stars who can shine in the tournament.
