Arsenal vs Blackburn Rovers: Live Score and Live Updates

Arsenal is going to meet Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates Stadium today in a premier league clash. Blackburn forced Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in their home match in the first half of the season. However, Blackburn tasted a home defeat to Arsenal in a Carling Cup match. The match is very much important for Arsenal in particular as it is a big chance for the North Londoners to increase their difference with second placed Manchester United.

Today, Manchester United lost their chance to be back at the top of the league point table, with a disappointing 1-2 lose to city rivals Manchester City at their home ground, the first time after 34 years. So, Arsenal will remain at the top even if they lose to Blackburn at the home soil. However, Arsene Wenger boys must be out there to win the match in front of the home supporters. Arsenal can take the difference from two to five points if they pick up three points from the match.

Blackburn Rovers, on the other hand, is not in the title race. However, their performance this season has been very good with currently standing at the eighth in the league point table. They have 39 points to their credits with satisfactory performances on the pitch. However, they failed to win any match in their last three premier league matches as they ended up in a draw in all the matches.

In contrast to Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal projected three flawless victories following the heart breaking 1-5 defeat to city rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the semi final of Carling Cup. Arsenal scored at least three goals in each of their last three matches. So, it is obvious that Wenger boys are now in imperious form. Naturally, Arsenal will have better chance against Blackburn Rovers as they will play at their home ground in front of their supporters. However, Blackburn has some good players like Roque Santa Cruz who scored 11 goals in premier league so far this season. However, both teams are now in the same row in terms of injury problem.

To begin with, Arsenal is expected to face Blackburn Rovers without its 10 regular first team players including three enter defenders being injured out of the final tea contention. Arsene Wenger is expected to bring Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue back to English straight from Ghana, where they represented Ivory Coast in the African Nations Cup 2008. Captain William Gallas is the only fit player in the center half. So, Kolo Toure could be featured in the line up within less than 24 hours of his arrival in the club. If Toure is not brought on the match then Gilberto Silva or Justin Hoye could make it to the starting line up. Tomas Rosicky, Robin van Persie and Johan Djourou have been out of action with injury and they will remain in the sideline for the upcoming match too. Goal keeper Manuel Almunia is suffering from a finger injury.

So, Jens Lehmann might get a rare chance in the final squad. Mathieu Flamini and Philippe Senderos are out with injury. Abou Diaby might be ruled out of the match with a calf injury picked up from the match against Manchester City.

CNN reported:

Tomas Rosicky, Robin van Persie and Johan Djourou are already sidelined but during Wednesday's internationals Swiss defender Phillipe Senderos aggravated a knee ligament problem and Mathieu Flamini suffered a hamstring injury playing for France.

To add to Wenger's woes, Spanish goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, already a doubt with a finger injury, has gone down with an illness that forced Wenger to send him home from training on Friday.

Abou Diaby is also likely to miss the Emirates Stadium clash with a calf injury sustained against Manchester City last weekend.

"It is a big problem. At the moment we are down to the bare bones. We are really, really short," Wenger said.

So, it is definitely a very tough situation for Arsene Wenger to cope up with so many loses of front line players. However, Blackburn Rovers is also facing some injury problems. Andre Ooijer and Steven Reid will miss today’s match. Both of them are from

Sportingo reported:

With injuries to defender Andre Ooijer and midfielder Steven Reid, a Blackburn victory seems improbable. Hughes will be fielding a relatively inexperienced squad as key midfielders Morten Gamst Pederson and David Dunn and centre-back Christopher Samba are also set to miss the match due to suspensions.

Now, it is almost certain that both teams will face each other without some of their key players. No doubt, it will affect on their performance. However, I think, the situation of Arsenal is more severe than that of Blackburn Rovers. Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue might increase the balance of the side if they are given featured in the match. Their participation will depend on the basis of their physical condition and the overall situation of other players of the team.

As both sides have some injury woes, it is really very tough to guess who will be favorite for the match. Arsenal will be without their almost 10 regular players against Blackburn Rovers. In other sense, you can say that the match will take a test of Arsenal reserve bench. I think, both the teams have chances to win the match. However, home advantage will be one of the advantages of Arsenal and Arsenal will have less pressure considering the fact that even a defeat will not force them out from the top place of the league point table.
