Svetlana Kuznetsova in Australian Open Tennis 2008

Svetlana Kuznetsova is the second seed of women’s singles of Australian Open 2008. The Russian is one of the top favorite to win the title of Australian Open tennis 2008, starting from January 14. The world no. 2, Kuznetsova could not win any grand slam tournament since her only grand slam title in 2004 U.S. Open. However, she was pretty consistent last year with reaching the finals of six tournaments and she made it to the quarter finals at least in 15 out of 18 competitions.

Kuznetsova has recently become the runner up of Sydney International being defeated to Justine Henin. However, she does not think that it will affect her performance in Australian Open 2008. Rather, she has defended it saying that she has lost to the world no. 1 Henin. Moreover, she has also expressed that she is working hard and it would be great if she can reach the final of Australian Open 2008.

Svetlana Kuznetsova has an easy draw in the tournament. It is apparent that if she can play according to her merit then reaching the fourth round will not be a problem for her. However, she may face her countrywomen Nadia Petrova in the fourth round. If she can progress to the quarter final, Anna Chakvetadze or Daniela Hantuchová could be her opponent. Ana Ivanovic or Venus Williams could be her opponent in the semi final. So, making it to the final would not be so easy for Kuznetsova. However, if she can continue the way she played in 2007, then nothing is impossible for her.
