Jelena Jankovic in Australian Open Tennis 2008

Jelena Jankovic is the third seed of women’s singles in Australian Open tennis 2008. The Serbian is one of few strong contenders to win the title of Australian Open. She performed with sheer consistency in 2007. Though she still does not have nay grand slam title to her credit, her performance in the grand slam tournament was satisfactory. She could reach the fourth round of Australian Open and Wimbledon last year, both of which are best performance so far in the tournaments. However, Jelena Jankovic marked her best grand slam performance in French Open last year making it to the semi final. Moreover, along with Jamie Murray, she won the mixed doubles title of Wimbledon 2007. She also won four WTA titles last year.

Jankovic should not have that much problem to reach the fourth round of Australian Open 2008. However, she might face Patty Schnyder or Amélie Mauresmo in the fourth round. So, reaching the quarter final will not be so easy for her. In the quarter final, her probable opponent would be world no. 7 Serena Williams and in the semi final, Maria Sharapova, or Justine Henin or Elena Dementieva could be her likely opponent. So, winning the title will be very difficult for this 22 year old Serbian tennis star. However, she is world no. 3 and if she can continue her performance of last year then you can bet on her.
