Roger Federer Advanced into the Second Round of Australian Open 2008

Roger Federer projected an emphatic victory brushing aside all the fears about his illness. The Swiss world no. 1 defeated Diego Hartfield of Argentina 6-0, 6-3, 6-0. The three set victory came within one hour and fourteen minutes. Earlier, Roger Federer was suffering from illness which forced him to withdraw from theKooyong Classic tournament just before the Australian Open 2008.

Guardian reported:

"I feel good and happy to be back playing as always," Federer said.

"I was never in doubt of not playing at the Open and I had a week to recover and could have played a match at Kooyong last Saturday.

"I took an extra day off to get ready and practised at the stadium and it paid off tonight."

Federer is now on his mission to win the Australian Open title for the third year in a row. Winning the Australian Open title will move him up within one grand slam title of Pete Sampras’s record 14 grand slam singles titles. Roger Federer will face Fabrice Santoro from France in the second round of the tournament. Now, let us see if he can continue his imperious form in the next round as well.
