Richard Gasquet in Australian Open Tennis 2008

Richard Gasquet could not start the year 2008 in style being crashed out of the Medibank International at Sydney in the second round. However, ahead of the Australian Open 2008, Richard Gasquet is considered as one of the strongest contestants. His performance was satisfactory last year as he played his first grand slam semi final tournament in Wimbledon. The French star is full of potential, but could not yet flourish his skill and talent fully.

Gasquet is the eighth seed of Australian Open 2007. He has been placed in the bottom half of the draw. It seems that he will not have to face any strong challenge till the fourth round. His most probable opponent in the fourth round would be Andy Murray, the world no. 9 at this moment. Nikolay Davydenko or Mikhail Youzhny might be his quarter final opponent. In the semi final, he could get Andy Roddick or Tommy Robredo or Carlos Moya or Rafael Nadal. The road will not be easy for the Frenchman, but Richard Gasquet has the talent in him to win something bigger than what he earned so far.
