Fernando Gonzalez in Australian Open Tennis 2008

Fernando Gonzalez was the finalist of Australian Open singles last year, the first time he played in a grand slam final. This time, he is the 7th seed in the Australian Open and his fans are also eager to see Gonzalez repeat the success of last year. He had to defeat Lieyton Hewitt, James Blake, Rafael Nadal, and Tommy Haas before reaching the final of Australian Open 2008. Though he was beaten by the world no. 1 Roger Federer in the final, he played the tournament with much dominance.

Now, ahead of Australian Open 2007 tournament, Fernando Gonzalez can inspire himself remembering his impressive performance last year. He might face James Blake in the fourth round of the tournament. However, world no. 1 Roger Federer could be his most probable quarter final opponent in Australian Open 2008. So, I think, reaching the semi final would be difficult for this Chilean. If he can really make it to the semi final then Djokovic or Hewitt or Baghdatis or Safin could be his probable opponent. However, overcoming the Roger Federer hurdle would be vital for Gonzalez. I can not be so much optimistic to say that he will be bale to defeat Federer. However, it does not mean that he never defeated Federer. Actually, he has already shown his ability, but Roger Federer seems to be undefeatable in the grand slam tournaments these days, except French Open.
