Rafael Nadal Advances into the Second Round of Australian Open 2008

Rafael Nadal reached the second round of Australian Open 2008 with an easy 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 6-1 victory over qualifier Viktor Troicki in the first round yesterday. The world no. 2 clinched the victory without facing any series threat from the Serbian. However, Nadal faced some resistance in the first set which decided though tie breaker. Rafael Nadal was comfortable while playing the shots. However, Viktor Troicki performed well, but he could not make the best use of the chances he got in the match.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported:

Nadal beat Serbian qualifier Viktor Troicki 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 6-1 in just over two and a half hours on Rod Laver Arena, finishing after midnight.

Big-serving Troicki had his chances, including a set point in the first set, which Nadal fought back from.

Then the Serbian grabbed an early service break in the second set.

Nadal has to face French Florent Serra in the second round. The unseeded Serra may not be that much problem for Rafael Nadal. The second seed, Nadal is one of the strongest contenders of Australian Open 2008. To many, he is the only player who can pose some threat to Roger Federer. Nadal has three grand slam titles in which all of them were won in French Open. So, Nadal will try his best to win her first non French Open grand slam title in the tournament.
