Jelena Jankovic Reaches Second Round with a Hard-won Victory in Australian Open 2008

Serbian star Jelena Jankovic progressed to the second round with a hard-fought victory over Tamira Paszek. The young Australian pushed back the Serbian in the three-hour long match. Jankovic started the match losing the first set 2-6. She came back in the match winning the second set with similar margin. Then in the third set, Jankovic could manage to clinch the victory 12-10. Actually, Tamira Paszek was impressive throughout the match with presenting some scary moments to the Jelena Jankovic. The match was full of excitement. The last set lasted about two hours.

The Age reported:

Paszek, 17, actually won more points during the match - 132 to 129 - and committed less unforced errors as the match went down to the wire.
But Jankovic won the points that counted the most, finally prevailing after 2pm local time in the first match of the day on the multi-purpose court.

So, at last, third seed Jankovic could survive in the match, though her performance was not satisfactory in the first round match. She is though to be one of the favorites of the tournament. However, they way she performed in the first match; it is really very difficult to bet on her.
