Barcelona vs Racing Santander: Live Score and Live Updates

http://techblogbiz.blogspot.com/2008/01/barcelona-vs-racing-santander-live.html

Barcelona is going to face La Liga’s surprise performer, Racing Santander at home in their next league match. Barcelona will have home advantage in the match as the club takes on Racing at Camp Nou on Sunday. Racing has been an impressive so far halfway though the season. Even a home game can not let them be relaxed, considering their home defeat to Real Madrid just before the Christmas.

Barcelona now stands 2nd in the league table with 40 points to their credit from 19 matches. They are still seven points behind the league leader Real Madrid. However, since their defeat to Real Madrid, the Catalan has been impressive so far in both league and Copa del Rey. Barcelona has recently confirmed their quarter final place in the Copa del Rey with a goal draw with Sevilla at home. Barcelona had the away goal advantage over Sevilla.

Racing Santander has also booked a place in the last eight on a 5-3 aggregate score over Real Zaragoza, following a smashing 4-2 victory recently. This is the first time in a decade, Racing has made it to the last right of Copa del Rey. Actually, they are in great form this season. Racing occupies the 6th place in the league table with only five points behind the third-placed Atletico Madrid. So, they may have a positive target to finish the season within top four, which would allow them to play UEFA Champions league qualifying next season.

Canadian Press reported:

Santander beat 2006 finalist Zaragoza 4-2 to advance on a 5-3 aggregate score and reach the quarter-finals for the first time in a decade.

Zaragoza, playing its first game under new manager Ander Garitano, took the lead on Ricardo Oliveira's goal in the sixth minute. Santander rallied with goals from striker Mohammed Tchite and defender Oriol Lozano to lead by halftime.

Oscar Serrano scored Santander's third goal with a fierce drive in the 68th, with Diego Milito restoring Zaragoza's hopes in the 82nd.

Ezequiel Garay sealed the victory with an injury time penalty.

Barcelona’s recent form is impressive. Actually, even the match they lost to Real Madrid at home, Barcelona played well. The goal could come from either way, though, Real was lucky to have the only goal of the match. Now, the Catalan club wants to retain their title this season then they can not afford to suffer any slip up at this crucial stage of La Liga. So, Barcelona must be playing for win against Racing Santander.

If Racing’s impressive from is a worry for Barcelona then the news of Lionel Messi’s recovery from the hamstring injury is big a relief for the Catalan side. Striker Samuel Eto'o is now away with national squad to take part in African Nations Cup, while Ronaldinho is out of action with injury. Messi suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Valencia before Christmas.

Goal.com reported:

Messi will not start on Sunday, but will be on the substitutes bench and is expected to come on the last fifteen minutes or so as he looks to return to full fitness.

Barcelona's Champions League game with Celtic in February is fast approaching and they are expected to ease Messi back into first team contention so that he is in peak condition by the time that fixture comes around.

Messi is coming back to action in a crucial time of the league. Messi was impressive in the season. Now, it is a big question if he can come back with his prime form. Though Barcelona still 7 points behind Real Madrid, Barcelona manager thinks that nothing has been decided yet. He called on the fans to support them in the coming home matches. He has said that they still have many matches ahead of them.

Tribal Football reported:

"With the help of our fans, in these three games we have to add points and seek positive results. There still remains many matches to play, there are many points that we can still add and competitions we can win," said Rijkaard.

"The Liga has NOT been decided. We all should be positive, because we can still achieve our objectives and have a great season here."

Barcelona is going to play at their home ground in front of their supporters. So, I can not be that much optimistic that Racing would achieve three points from the match. However, even a point from this match would consider as a victory for them. However, I expect to watch an interesting match at Camp Nou.
